    After a two week hiatus the 813area Podcast is back at it again recorded live from the Sourcetoad Studios at the Tampa Bay WaVE in downtown Tampa bringing your pod guide to everything in the 813area and 727area. Your hosts Collin Sherwin and Brock Bjorn bring you everything there is to offer this jam packed opening weekend in the month of May with all of the Cinco de Mayo festivities, Kentucky Derby watch parties, the University of South Florida and University of Tampa commencement ceremonies (congratulations graduates!), Tampa Riverfest Lynyrd Skynyrd: Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour and Halftime Music Festival. Got it all? If you don't have plans there are plenty of events to choose for, and we break down all of the options from the ritzy to the rowdy!
    The Tampa Riverfest is an all-day festival in and of itself with a multitude events downtown including a Scavenger Hunt with a Tampa staycation at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina on the line, featuring adult and kid-friendly versions! Riverfest also brings you events such as TacoFest at Tampa Riverfest, a Wiener Dog Derby, Taste of the Riverwalk and a Free Concert Series! There's also the benefit of watching the second round matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 against the Boston Bruins.

    The guys also talk about various Cinco de Mayo events like the Cinco De Mayo ~ Corona Premier Official Tampa Launch Party! at Franklin Manor, the Tacos and Tequila Party at The RITZ Ybor and the major celebrations happening at both the SoHo MacDinton's and MacDinton's St Pete; including a jalepeno eating contest.
    For those who enjoy the Triple Crown and horse racing, there are also plenty of events celebrating the Kentuckuy Derby on Saturday including Kentucky Derby Day at Tampa Bay Down, Cinco De Zydeco which is a combined Derby Day and Cinco party and for those dapper folks out there, the 13 Ugly Men Presents The Derby Party.

    Welcome to the 9th Edition of the 813area Podcast featuring Collin Sherwin and Anthony Vito, recorded live from the Tampa Bay WaVE studios on Kennedy in downtown Tampa. We took a brief hiatus after St. Patrick's Day to recover but we are back with your local pod guide to everything Tampa this weekend. We lay out what appears to be an extremely busy May 5th, a.k.a. Cinco de Mayo, in a couple weeks with a multitude of concerts, graduations, parties, events, The Kentucky Derby and more so it's best to start planning now!
    But enough about the future, we talk about the plethora of events that are happening in our area this weekend such as the Sugar Sand Festival at Clearwater Beach, the Pints and Ping Pong Tournament at 3 Daughters Brewing in the 727area and the Sixth Annual Tampa Bay Kid's Triathlon in the 813area.

    The guys also talk about the Tampa Bay Lightning first round playoff series starting tonight and continuing on Saturday at Amalie Arena so go out and support the hometown Bolts in their pursuit of Lord Stanley's Cup. In addition to the Lightning, the Tampa Bay Rays host a series with the Philadelphia Phillies Friday through Sunday so there's plenty to do for the local sports fan, too!

Collin Sherwin brings you an in-depth interview with Marc Blumenthal, Investment Committee Member of Florida Funders and Founding Partner of Synapse Florida from the Florida Funders office in Downtown Tampa.

    Collin and Marc talk about Florida Funders, and how he personally ended up at the local venture capital/crowdfunding hybrid firm. Marc had multiple entrepreneurial endeavors prior to Florida Funders, and his first business venture was while still a student at the University of South Florida. Marc elaborates that the firm's mission statement to keep innovative businesses and minds in Florida, and the importance of keeping our best and brightest home. He also explains why Tampa is an excellent incubator compared to other markets, and what the city can do to reach the top to support young companies and start-ups.

    Collin and Marc also discuss the Synapse Innovation Summit Tampa March 28-29 at Amalie Arena, and what to expect from the major innovation and technology conference right in our backyard. Marc explains the goal of Synapse is to get you started on your journey and where in the city to start with over a dozen main-stage speakers and topics ranging from blockchain, virtual and augmented reality, and health and wellness tech.
