    20. Nicole Yaneza Bagatsing and Indo-Pacific Leadership

    Hey hey listeners!

I'm BACK after an extended break! I can't wait to share heaps of new episodes with you in this new year of 2022! Today we are joined by the incredible Nicole Yaneza Bagatsing, who is a hardworking, award-winning and truly inspirational civic leader, volunteer, Asian-Australian immigrant, aspiring lawyer and youth advocate! Goshhh I am just BUSTING to tell you all about her but I can only type so much - you'll have to listen to the pod to find out!

We chat about all things leadership - Nikki's own journey into the field, her background as an immigrant, how she deals with so many amazing opportunities on her plate, and - although daunting - why it is both important and inspirational to be the only one who "has the same cultural background as you do or speaks the same language that you speak at home" in your workplace or dream field. Nikki shares some powerful advice, and her dm's are open if you are seeking any more! You can find her on Instagram @nicole.bagatsing

I hope you all enjoy the episode and I am wishing you all a (very belated) happy new year! Here's to a healthier, more loving, and more progressive 2022!

    S xx

    19. Chloe Zitsow and Addressing Furniture Poverty

    Hi folks!

Welcome back to a new episode of Be the Change! I am so excited to be back and to share some amazing stories with you.

Today, we chat to Chloe Zitsow, a 16-year-old change maker from Los Angeles. Chloe is the founder of youth-led organisation, The Hermit Crab Society, which is dedicated to addressing furniture poverty and preventing people from becoming homeless due to this issue.

Chloe and I chat about what furniture poverty actually is, what it looks like in LA County, and the ups, downs and whys of founding the organisation. We hear some great advice on what steps to take, if we want to take similar action for our passions.

The Hermit Crab Society has loads of good stuff to explore, including as resources for affordable furniture, educational instagram posts, education sessions at public libraries, monthly newsletters and volunteer opportunities.

To say hello to Chloe and learn more about the organisation, you can visit the thehermitcrabsociety.simplesite.com website or their instagram page @thehermitcrabsociety

    18. Nicholas Hong, with This is Zero Hour

    18. Nicholas Hong, with This is Zero Hour

    Hello lovely listeners!

Sorry for the delay in episodes, I have had a few weeks of rest and have tried a new editing style in the meantime!

Today we are joined by 16-year-old Nicholas Hong, all the way from Chicago, Illinois! He is a fundamental member of international youth-led organisation Zero Hour, which is focused on centering the voices of diverse young people in climate and environmental justice conversations.

We start by getting to know a little bit about Nicholas, and his Five Fast Favourites. We hear about his journey with environmental action, and how Nicholas dealt with having a President who did not prioritise the environment. This leads us to chat about Zero Hour - what it is, how to get involved, and what kind of opportunities are within the organisation. It sounds amazing... like there really is something for everyone! Nicholas shares his favourite story about collective youth action (although he got a Saturday school for it, it was definitely worth it!). We finish with some inspirational advice, and Nicholas shares how we can connect with Zero Hour on social media.

If you would like to learn more about Zero Hour, you can find them at @thisiszerohour on Instagram, or you can visit the website http://thisiszerohour.org to connect elsewhere! To hear more from the incredible Nicholas, you can reach out via Zero Hour's contact system.

    17. Ruby Reithmuller and Girls Leading Girls

    17. Ruby Reithmuller and Girls Leading Girls

Hey all! I hope you are all staying safe in the lockdown!

On today's episode, we are joined by Ruby Reithmuller, who is an amazing Sydney/Wagga Wagga based young leader, dedicated to empowering teenage girls. She is the founder of Womn-Kind, which allows her to connect, inspire and mentor teens through both social media, school talks, and her website.

Ruby and I start with her Five Fast Favourites, and question which is our favourite food - chocolate or avocado? Then, we dive straight into Ruby's passion for supporting and sharing experiences with others, and how this all began. Ruby explains what Womn-Kind is, and why she thinks it's important for teen girls to be supported by those who have had the similar experiences. We learn how to get involved though mentorship, volunteering, and engaging through her website/social media. To finish, Ruby gives herself (and us) the incredible advice she would give to herself, five years ago.

If you would like to get involved with Ruby and Womn-Kind, visit the website https://www.womn-kind.com.au/ to access all the great things that the organisation has to offer! You can also follow the Instagram page, @womnkind for super fun updates, self care tips, and positivity. This is an awesome resource to tap into, especially with the uncertainty that COVID places on us and how we are experiencing our teen years.

We chat all about COVID-19 and social media, and how this affected our ability to actually connect with each other. Sam shares the joys of receiving hand-written mail.
