BEHIND THE STUNTS Jon Auty

Ben Hur is one of the greatest biblical epics of our time. When in 1959 Charlton Heston took the lead role and William Wyler directed it became the most expensive film ever made and won 11 Academy Awards. The following year Stunt Coordinator YAKIMA CANUTT was presented with an Honorary Oscar for his achievement in the action business. 
In 2016 a new version was made - technology allowed the filmmakers to do things they couldn't have dreamt of back in 59. The cast said, "its not a remake, its a reimagining". The action is very clever and well worth exploring....the final film although being over 80 mins shorter than the original, just doesn't tick any of the boxes ticked over and over again by the 1959 classic.

The Duke, John Wayne is a formidable thrower of the screen punch.
In the words of the great Nosher Powell, "When I hit em they stay bloody hit".

John Wayne made a career from being the American lawman who made everything right in the end. His ability to throw a cracking screen punch was second to none and thanks to stunt guys like YAKIMA CANUTT and CHUCK ROBERSON Duke was able to continue throwing these belters right up until the end.

A Burt Reynolds double bill is always an essential. Here we see him playing Gator McClusky in White Lightning in 1973 and again in Gator in 1976. 
Its another fine example of Burt working with long term friend and stuntman HAL NEEDHAM.
