Comfortable Silence Bateman
-
- Comedy
Join host Bateman McBride as he sits quietly in a comfy space with a guest or on his own. This podcast is some time for you to catch up on a book, write something, or relax with some ambient noise and a bit of company.
Also Bateman thought it'd be really funny to get guests on a podcast who don't say anything.

Coronabonus Episode 2 - Three short stories
More from our good friend Lafcadio Hearn in this episode, namely Ingwa-Banashi, The Gratitude of the Samebito, and Of a Promise Kept.
Hope you enjoy them as much as I did! -
Coronabonus Episode 1 - A Passional Karma
Hello! I decided that while we're all locked up, I would release an episode that's miles different from the usual.
During this episode, I'm reading a short story by Patrick Lafcadio Hearn called A Passional Karma.
It's a really interesting Japanese ghost story that has elements of classical tragedy and horror, but presented through a Buddhist lens.
I really hope you enjoy it. Listening to my own voice when editing is not my strong suit! -
Episode 7 - Comfortable lock-in
I really hope you're all doing well despite the global pandemic.
This time I am reading Japanese Ghost Stories by Lafcadio Hearn. Its very interesting to read the interpretation of culture by a Western author, but one living in Japan during the Meiji era.
Stay safe, love you. -
Episode 6 - The Sun Returns
Hello! This episode sees Bateman working from home a bit, as the code he writes refuses to work.
Also he reads a bit of Japanese Ghost Stories by Lafcadio Hearn.
Jake refused to come and sit with me this time. -
Episode 5 - Christmas is Coming
Sweet baby Jesus we're back.
Just on my own this time, as it's much less stressful than getting someone in to be my guest.
This week, I was reading Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. I then folded the laundry. -
Episode 4 - Alice McBride
This week I sit down with my wife Alice, which is nice (and a little rare)!
Alice was reading The Last Children of Tokyo by Yoko Tawada, and I was playing Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
