Desperation Church works through the Bible verse by verse each weekend as a part of our sermon study. We believe the greatest story ever told should be shared in a dynamic, energetic and authentic way. Pastor Bil (and occasionally other folks from the DC Community) deliver practical Biblical teaching grounded in the original context that honors the Jewishness of Jesus with direct application for the community God has called us to lead. We hope you enjoy this podcast and welcome your comments.

Submitting to authority can sometimes be uncomfortable and messy. However, God expects us to honor those in authority over us. Join us this Sunday as we continue in our Camp Covid: Adventures Away from it All series as we look at 1 Peter 2:13-17. We hope you will join us online and invite a FB friend!

    Adventures Away From it All:IV

    Adventures Away From it All:IV

Families are messy. Your recent experience sheltering in place may have heightened this reality. Peter was aware of this fact when he wrote his letter to the believers scattered all over the Roman Empire. They were learning and growing as followers of Jesus trying to shed their old habits and sometimes this caused problems. This week Peter uses the example of a mother and child to show us how to live. We are encouraged to embrace God’s “rebuilding” effort to become who we were meant to be.

This weekend we’ll be taking communion together so be sure to have bread or crackers on hand along with juice. We’ll also honor our Graduates. As we continue our “Camp Covid” series, in 1 Peter 1:13-25 the author reveals the only 2 things in this world that will last into eternity.

Adventures Away From it All:II (Future First)

Last week we started our adventure at Camp Covid in the book of 1 Peter. This letter was written to Jewish and Gentile men and women under persecution. Peter’s goal was to encourage them to draw closer to Jesus and to grow in their faith. This week Peter encourages us to think of our “future first” when we face trials and persecution. Join us as Pastor Bil looks at 1 Peter 1:3-12. We’ll learn having joy in the midst of any trial is all in where you look.

    Adventures Away From it All:I

    Adventures Away From it All:I

Last week we celebrated the weirdest Easter ever. Normally, we would do everything possible to gather people together. Instead, we find ourselves isolated and worshipping apart in our homes. But Jesus is still our death-conquering savior and we continue to trust in Him. So what does the new life we have in Him look like in the age of Covid-19?

This week Pastor Bil will begin a study in the book of 1 Peter. This letter to believers spread out all over the place and under duress speaks to many of the issues we face today.

    Not What We Had Planned

    Not What We Had Planned

Around the world this Easter, people will be waking up to a day that is not what they had planned. Church services, egg hunts and family gatherings are on hold as our world deals with the Coronavirus. You might even be in pajamas instead of wearing a special dress or outfit. For some, there is a feeling of uncertainty and sorrow instead of hope and joy.

That puts us on equal footing with the friends and disciples of Jesus on the first Easter morning. Nothing went the way they expected!

Be encouraged, when things don’t go the way we expected, there is one who is never surprised, always faithful and always available.
