    Episode #13- Recycling Entertainment

    Episode #13- Recycling Entertainment

    Episode #13- Recycling Entertainment

Old to new. Foreign to American, and American to foreign. New with a twist or no twist. From movie to TV and TV to movie. Comic book to TV to movie. Franchise reboot, movie to musical and musical to movie. . . (Tron, Battlestar Galactica, Psycho, The Italian Job, The Fly, Dawn of the Dead, Spiderman, Batman, The Femme Nikita, Let the Right One In, The Killing, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Conan the Barbarian, Footloose, The Thing, Hairspray, True Grit, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, 13 Assassins, Oceans 11, Knight Rider, Bionic Woman, the entire DC Universe. . .)

Seems there's a market out there for recycled entertainment materials. Our probing podcasters, Rock, Paper and Scissors have a few thoughts on the subject. They consider the good and bad of it, and the business and art of it. They mull over why there seems to be such a recent flood of recycled stories.

    Game time-

Speaking of remakes, Paper sets up Rock and Scissors to try and properly guess at the names of porn films that were parodied from mainstream movie titles.

    Dumpster Dives-

Well, the dumpster is often filled with items waiting to be re-issued. Scissors reclaims an ice breaker type card game. Bubble Talk has picture cards that are laid out one at a time. The players secretly lay down caption cards that they feel the judge for that round will find the most appropriate. Rock would like to remind everyone of the many different flavors of KitKats found around the world. Having tried a number of these and even shared some with his fellow podcasters (see Episode #5- Taste Test) he prompts listeners to be on the lookout for these fantastic and unusual flavored candy bars. Paper feels fortunate to uncover and share an HBO show. Luck centers around a career mobster who looks to take over ownership of a racetrack while plotting revenge against those responsible for putting him in jail.

(come back for episode 14 where they converse about comic books.)

    Episode 12- Bondcast!

    Episode 12- Bondcast!

It's time for some "Man Talk," so excuse the masseuse (preferable with a firm smack on the keister), make yourself a martini and use your magnetic watch to retrieve the remote from across your facility so you can turn up the volume on this intriguing podcast. Infiltrate a discussion between Rock, Paper, Scissors and Captain Claw. Listen as they go deep, deep undercover into the world of Bond and explore ridiculous female character names, gadgets, villainous lairs and quotes.

If you find yourself wondering how deep this all goes. . . let us warn you that our embedded podcasters will even try to decipher the means (and possibly gadgets) Bond requires to take a crap.

Game time- From beginning to end, and back to beginning, and on to the end. . . then back to the beginning. . . and through to the end, etc.

Reading the title for this game will, perhaps, take longer than the actual game. Rock challenges Paper, Scissors, and Captain Claw to name movie titles, however, the pressure cooker gets the best of our podcasters, and this game is very short lived.

    Dumpster Dives-

The dumpster isn't a place for the faint of heart. Why not let our expert podcasters do the reconnaissance for you. Keeping in the theme of the topic Rock uncovers a 70's British tv series about a retired spy, The Prisoner. Paper unshakably discloses her feelings for all things related to Sherlock Holmes (movies, graphic novels, new and old tv series.) Scissors masterly reveals a concept album, (including packaging details), Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull. And lastly, Captain Claw divulges intelligence on a book about a puzzling island among the Galapagos, Floreana by Margret Wittmer.

    Episode #11- Calling all Recasts!

    Episode #11- Calling all Recasts!

    Episode #11- Calling all Recasts!

It's time to relieve your ears from whatever garbage you are currently listening to and trade up to the Earinvasia podcast- because they are doing a recasting podcast! In this plucky parley Rock, Paper and Scissors re-imagine some of their favorite and not so favorite movies. Who else, from any era, could play a believable Batman, Brando or Wells perhaps? Could Gary Busey tag in for an interesting Conan or Terminator. . . how about a Daniel Craig Terminator? Would Marlon Brando or Rob Schneider make a better Superman? Could you recast Star Wars with Jack Nicholson as Yoda and Matthew McConaughey as Chewie? Perhaps one could rework the kilts from Brave Heart into plaid tutus. And maybe Samuel L. Jackson would refine Winston into a more kick-ass Ghostbuster. Surely you can come up with your own ideas, but why not let Rock, Paper and Scissors give you a spring board.

    Game time- Star Wars Wars

This time it's Rock and Scissors in the pressure cooker. Who can name the most Star Wars characters? Only Paper, with his mad memory skills can officiate this kind of battle.

    Dumpster Dives-

Rock, Paper and Scissors think that it's time for you to change up your entertainment, and they are willing to reveal some of the treasures they've uncovered from the dumpster. First, Scissors hurls out a Cartoon Network cartoon, Adventure Time. Scissors finds it difficult to express, in words, the delight this show brings to him. However, the sentiment is understood and you the listener can be assured that this show is a gem. Next, Rock pitches into a double play with a soft spot for NYC. Ex Machina, a comic book series, creates a parallel NYC where the second tower didn't fall on 9/11 thanks to a newbie superhero with political aspirations. Rock follows that up with a documentary, Man On Wire, which follows the ventures of a French tight rope walker who dreams of walking between the World Trade Center towers. Finally, Paper pays tribute to a recently lost podcast, Filmjitsu. The 'podcast that wields film like deadly weapons' was engaging, hilarious and informative.

(come back for episode 12 where they powwow about Bond, James Bond.)

    Episode #10- Theme Music

    Episode #10- Theme Music

    Episode #10- Theme Music

Sweeping strings, driving drums, blasting horns; theme music is the non visual character that seems to drive emotion. From earworms to anthems, massive orchestras to 8-bit, there's a world of sound and Rock, Paper and Scissors want to take it on. First they start with Williams, Elfman, Carpenter, Hisaishi, Marricone and other big movie hitters. They switch to an almost endless list of TV themes that range from moody and mysterious to goofy and ridiculous. Flipping from TV to games, Yuzo Koshiro, Koji Kondo, Nuo Bouematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, and a slew of others from Capcom dominate the conversation.

    Game time- Elfman vs/ Williams

Paper pits Scissors and Rock against each other in this thematic face off.

    Dumpster Dives-

Trolling through the dumpster could leave you singing the blues. However, our podcasters seem to always resurface singing the praises of their loot. Scissors ascends with Improv Everywhere, a website that showcases the group's hilarious exploits. Paper crests with a humorous webcomic slung over a shoulder, Oglaf. And Rock summits with Tales from the Crypt, a much missed television series.

    Episode #9- Nostalgia

    Episode #9- Nostalgia

    Episode #9- Nostalgia

Join Rock, Paper and Scissors as they traipse through their days of yore. For a little while they touch on the media and material indicators that have cycled back from their childhoods. Each generation has these touchstones, but what of the things that can't be stocked on a store shelf? What about the sentiment of snow, sledding and snowball fights? Where did they leave behind the enthusiasm and gratification of a bowl of cereal and a line up of Saturday morning cartoons? Listen in as these podcasters wistfully wander and wonder.

Game time- It's all Greek to me

Rock challenges Paper and Scissors to a game of the gods. Rock will give a Greek god name and Paper and Scissors must give the Roman equivalent in turn. There seems to be no shortage of clues and hints to aid these mere mortals.

    Dumpster Dives-

Over time the dumpster is filled with forgotten remembrances, idols of sentimentality, and nick-knacks of nostalgia. These things were toss aside at one time and our formidable podcasters reach back in time, under the couch cushions and behind the cupboard to pull out some once gone gobbets. Paper waxes on two podcasts. "In Our Time," with Melvyn Bragg, and "StarTalk," hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Scissors rhapsodizes about The Angry Video Game Nerd Youtube Channel, as well as his website Cinemassacre where he reviews horror movies. Rock eulogizes the 1990 Akira Kurosawa film, Dreams.

(come back for episode 10 where they discuss theme songs.)
