This is Gaming Couch, a time to talk about gaming. Video games, card games, board games, table top war games, you name it. Focusing mostly on games of old and up to the indie market of today I like to think about what makes a game a game and how it holds up to others of its kind.
Rule #1: Never fix it in post.
Rule #2: There are no rules.

    On a Scale of 1-100

    On a Scale of 1-100

Episode 73 of Gaming Couch! And just in time for the holidays!

Balancing a game is very difficult. There are so many variables to consider to ensure that all 'builds' are viable and will be enjoyable to play. With that, there are times that one play style will be better than another. I feel that Dark Souls isn't too bad if you just dump things into Health and Strength, allowing you to mow down enemies and bosses with ease. There is no real answer to 'How do you balance a game?' Which can be annoying, since many games suffer from some bad balancing even in a small area.

With the holidays around the corner I hope you enjoy them with whatever it is you do. So take care and a merry or happy whatever it is you celebrate!

    Rising from the Ashes

    Rising from the Ashes

Episode 72 of Gaming Couch! Giving an in depth look a Phoenix Point today!

It is a good game. It really is. I am happy I bought it. There is better combat when compared to XCOM. There are factions and global relations. There is more management with your troops and equipment. It's all a big thumbs up from me. The negatives are really just nitpicks...which is upsetting...

Lastly, I am doing a small give away on Steam. A game to give away. Details at the end of the episode.

    Thanks again for listening,

    Smartboy

P.S, I didn't mention it in the episode so I will here. Hot DAMN fighting human units can be much harder than fighting Pandorians in this game.

    Is DLC Bad?

    Is DLC Bad?

Episode 71 of Gaming Couch and, hell why not, a new season! I'm honestly saying its a new season because I haven't done that in a while...maybe one day I'll had some structure to it......anyway.

What is your take on DLC? Is it a good thing? Or some horrible cash grab? We have seen DLC used in many, many ways over the years. Some of it good and some of it bad. I want to try and get to the bottom of it. I want to answer the question, "Is DLC actually good for us?" It is a tough question no doubt about it. As always, tweet at me on Twitter with any thoughts you have on the subject. @G_C_Podcast

    Take care,

    Smartboy

P.S. Streaming services are like DLC for T.V. aren't they? Hey, you want the net game or episode in this story? Fork over the money. Just a funny observation, nothing more.

    Poke Sword and Shield

    Poke Sword and Shield

Wooo Episode 70 of Gaming Couch! Just wanted to say 'woooo' because 70 is a big number.

ANYWAY. I got Pokemone Sword so today's episode gets to stay pretty relevant! Go me! Overall......I'm split on the game. It feels like two different games at the same time. There are some REALLY, like REALLY, strong parts of the game that I love. And then there are many smaller not so good parts of the game. Luckily those REALLY strong points are keeping me going through it as I want to see the end of the Gym Challenge (yes, it actually has a name in this game, not just 'Go get the shineys'). Have a listen and enjoy!

P.S. some of the new Pokemon designs are awesome Golisopod is my main boi now. Loving him.

    Battle Chef Brigade!!

    Battle Chef Brigade!!

Episode 69 (nice) of Gaming Couch!

I got to say. I'm VERY slow on some of the best games out there. I recently was blessed by finding the game Battle Chef Brigade made by Tinker Studios and published by Adult Swim Games. It does so many things well. You like puzzle match 3 games? Got it. You like Beat 'em ups? Got it. You like lite RPG elements with choosing a loadout? Got it. You like cooking? Got it. You like crazy over the top and slightly anime? Got it.

Seriously, this game is addicting. The characters are funny and charming. The way the matches are balanced between finding ingredinents, fighting monsters, cooking, and the clock is done perfectly. Seriously this is a game you need to buy.

Here is the Steam page for it. Give it a go. It's 20 bucks and well worth it. ---> https://store.steampowered.com/app/452570/Battle_Chef_Brigade_Deluxe/

    Take care,

    Smartboy

P.S. I have nothing more to say. This game is amazing.

    Buyer's Remorse?

    Buyer's Remorse?

    Episode 68 of Gaming Couch!

Here was an impromptu episode idea thanks to discord chats. When should a consumer be allowed to to refund/return a game they bought? Should it always be allowed? Or should there be a standard beyond 'I didn't like it'? As the consumer it is important we understand the game we are purchasing and as a developer it is important to release a polished game with some standard of quality, not a buggy mess.

I have some thoughts. It's what I do. Share thoughts. Let me know what you think of twitter @G_C_Podcast!

P.S, Know what's great about providing a free service? No buyer's remorse! You can enjoy or hate it without spending a penny!
