There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.

Customer Reviews
Great show - horrible producer
The show is one of my absolute favourites. Robert is an amazing story teller and has a very fun personality, the guests he brings on are also always interesting characters who supplement the stories well with their charisma and knowledge, every single time. HOWEVER the only thing that drags this down is the constant interjecting of the producer, Sophie, who can best be described as attention needy, unintelectual and stale. She tries very hard to come off as a pendant to Robert, which has the potential to work, but her desperate attempts to get her voice on the show, results in superbly annoying and unwitty comments that are detrimentally jarring to the listening experience. One could liken her to an individual with the mental capacity of a primary school student. If she could be switched out, with say one of the guests like Loftis or another charismatic female, the show would be *perfect*.
Great show. Not quite if their contact info is correct.
I love this show. Have been listening to it since it started. I, for one, absolutely love all the guests. I only wish sometimes there’d be more of a follow up. Like on Kaiser Wilhelm. He wrote a memoir. What I wouldn’t give to hear Robert take that apart with Jamie Loftus.
I only wonder if the podcast contact info is correct. All I could find was a PO Box in Atlanta. I do hope they got the book on a family of weird French executioners I sent them.
Technical issues abound
Love the show!
However the technical side of things is messed up. This series has constant issues with episodes cut short, long parts of the same episode being randomly repeated in the middle of everything, cuts to adds in the middle of sentences and annoying things of the sort.
It might have to do with how the adds are inserted into the podcast by the powers that be, I find the older episodes are more fraught with these errors than new ones.
I've never had issues with any other podcast on Apple, but then again this is the only one with adds.
For that reason (and because, truly, I like the show), I recently opted for a paid add-free version. Now, however, the sound has started cutting out, and I have to restart the app to get it back.
So you might want to consider listening through some other podcast service 🤐
