Lifessa Lounge #32: Lessons From Around The World Lifessa Lounge

    • Society & Culture

We live in a world of diverse cultures and background but just how much are you taking advantage of your access to other cultures in order to aid in your own development?

Through taking the opportunity to explore other cultures and take advantage of the diverse environments we live in we not only widen our knowledge of the world but also develop soft skills such as communication and empathy through understanding the traits and characteristics of different cultures. These skills can be used to help you in your personal day to day engagements but also in your business and career progression as you learn to adapt your approach to fit a variety of different global and cultural audiences.

In this week's show we discuss how you can make the most of living in a cultural diverse environment, how Ben has used his experiences of working in a culturally diverse workplace to advance his leadership and management skills and practical actions you can take in your own lives.

We also dig into the importance of emotional intelligence but more importantly emotional awareness and why it's essential to pay close attention to your mood and emotions in order to better manage them and prevent them from holding you back in your life and career. Are you a person who easily gets into a bad mood? If so, are you actively aware when you do and able to take yourself out of it? Or do you struggle not only to recognise it but also to get yourself back to a stable or happy state?

Developing and understanding your level of emotional maturity and your current state of mind and how to manage it is key to ensuring you manage yourself in tough situations in order to make the right decisions. Getting to a point of emotional maturity where your able to do so doesn't happen overnight though so we offer some practical tips on how to start paying closer attention and becoming more aware of your emotions in order to better manage them.

We also touch briefly on the importance of honesty and authenticity and how that is currently manifesting itself in the UK Election as well as bringing in a new item for the show where we introduce a 'Book of the Week' that you can use to help in your self-development and pursuit of your goals. This week our 'Book of the Week' is 'Start With Why' by Simon Sinek, which is a superb book on essential leadership skills and understanding your why. It also offers countless lessons that you can apply outside of leadership and in other aspects of your life.
