    #Lum Squad #12: "Moo-ving Stories!"

Hello darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura!

We’re approaching the 2/3rds mark of the series’ volume count as we head into the first half of the 11th omnibus! Not only that, we’re entering one of the strongest periods for the series to date, and this volume in particular is filled with classic chapters that offered so much to talk about that we went on for two hours on just the first half alone! We had good reason to, however, as we discuss iconic stories like the “Blue-White Flames of Anger” arc and pivotal character-building chapters centered on Ataru and Lum’s relationship like “The Glove of Love and Conflict” and the deceptively emotional “Lum Becomes a Cow!”

We also discuss the various hilarious chapters in-between, from the absurdly extravagant festive farce of Mendo’s Christmas Party to transformation antics gone unthinkably wrong! We also spend a lot of time discussing recurring themes and notable details that pervade the series in these chapters, like Kosuke and Torajima becoming more prominent, the Ryunosuke/Shinobu ship, the differences between Lum and Oyuki as alien royalty, the shift in Lum’s relationships with both her friend group and Shinobu, and a whole lot more!

It’s a podcast stuffed full of surprises and while we haven’t hidden a bomb inside, we still think you’ll have a blast!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura!

Urusei Yatsura’s getting a new anime!!! The Urusei Yatsura All-Stars reboot was announced on New Year’s Eve to bring in the year of the tiger with electrifying excitement! All us Urusei Yatsura fans went out of our minds with this out of the world announcement, and we couldn’t wait to talk about it on the show. Which is why right at the stroke of midnight (central US time), we recorded a special podcast covering everything we know about the upcoming anime and what to expect from it! That’s right, we recorded our first new podcast of the year literally right when the year began! I wish I could’ve released this episode as timely as we released it, but hey, at least it isn’t out of date yet!

Even if it’s a little late, this episode is still special because it’s our very first episode to have special guests! That’s right, we’re joined by VLord, host of many podcasts including the Shogakukan-focused podcast Saturday Night Shoggy, and Sakaki, co-host of Saturday Night Shoggy and webmaster of the Weekly Shogakukan Edition blog and Twitter, whose tweet about the news went viral hours before it was officially confirmed! We discuss our reactions to the leaks before the official confirmation came in, our thoughts on the new studio and actors, wonder if Nagotoro is the modern-day Lum, worry whether Ataru’s perviness would offend modern viewers, what stories we expect to be adapted, and whether we think the new show will broaden UY’s worldwide popularity!

So join us as we put weird and weird together yet again and embrace a new anime that’ll make things even weirder!

#Lum Squad #10: "You "Only You' Once"

Hello darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura!

It’s time for I, I, You, and I to review Urusei Yatsura: Only You! We’re so excited to finally have the films streaming on Crunchyroll and coming to blu-ray courtesy of Discotek, and so we’ll be periodically interrupting our coverage of the manga to review each movie! And what better occasion to start with than on our 10th episode AND just ahead of the upcoming blu-ray release of Only You coming later this month!

We’re starting off with the series’s first movie, Only You, a much-beloved crowd-pleaser that director Mamoru Oshii was loath to make! While clearly a love letter to the series, do we agree with Oshii that it’s more of an extended episode than a “real film?” We discuss the fascinatingly fraught production history of Only You, analyze Elle as a parallel to both Lum and Ataru, describe the multitude of references and callbacks to the series, and evaluate the film’s iconic music and far less esteemed english dub! They say a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, but where does this first feature fall among the other films in the franchise? Only you will find out by listening to our show!

#Lum Squad #09: "Doesn't Anyone Here Love Each Other?"

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura!

Our discussion on Urusei Yatsura Volume 10 was so long we had to split it up across multiple recordings for different parts! This discussion is an interesting mix of different recordings in of itself, because we had originally discussed the first two chapters in this episode, the “Love Letter Trouble” two-parter, at the tail end of our previous recording that you heard in our last episode, and our discussion of the remaining chapters in the volume was split down the middle into two different recordings because of an audio mishap on AC’s end that froze his Audacity during our discussion of the “Lover Thief”  two-parter. All this to say that this episode is still kind of a weird frankenstein of different recordings, which is why you may hear some differences in the audio during different parts of it. That said, I think the sum of these parts still makes for an excellent episode and discussion of the chapters included in the second half of UY’s 10th omnibus volume, effectively the 20th volume of the original tankobons!

We talk about a really uneven collection of chapters in this one, featuring a lotta stories about love troubles! We’ve got Ryoko trying to run the bases with Tobimaro, starcrossed peach spirits who can’t get a head, ghost girls with puppy love, giant octopuses gone wild, Kurama’s last-ditch attempt to get laid, and even some character development for Rei?! It’s a wild ride as we go over some really great chapters, as well as one of the series' absolute worst! Which of these stories did we love and which one did we loathe? You’ll just have to tune in and join us as we go on another journey into the lovely world of Urusei Yatsura!

#Lum Squad #08: "Chain of Memories"

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura!

We’ve entered the double-digits of Urusei Yatsura’s omnibus volumes, and to mark the occasion we’re mixing up our format for covering the manga from here on out. Our past couple of volume discussions have run so long that from here on out we’ll be splitting our discussions of the omnibuses into two separate episodes as opposed to one big long one, which we hope will help us edit and release episodes more reliably and regularly!

We’re starting off our coverage of the 10th omnibus today with a collection of stories that deal with summertime and memories! Tune in as we explore some fishy stories involving a love triangle between a pool ghoul, blowfish, and a shark, a jellyfish in a can jam, and learning to swim like your life depends on it! Plus we take a stroll down memory lane while reliving Sakura’s childhood by playing with monsters, Ryuu’s rocky relationship with her strange estranged mother (?), and Benten’s literal chain of memories! So join us for some fun in the sun and to learn some surprising secrets about some beloved characters’ lives as we dive into another swimmingly fluid volume of Urusei Yatsura!

#Lum Squad #07: "The Miss Tomobiki Contest!"

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to #LumSquad, a podcast hosted by @LumRanmaYasha and @ProdTally devoted to the wonderful and wacky world of Rumiko Takahashi’s Urusei Yatsura!

We've officially hit the halfway point of the Urusei Yatsura manga! The series' ninth omnibus is a fantastic collection of stories, a real showcase of the manga in its prime! Perhaps no storyline best demonstrates this than the series' longest and most ambitious story arc to date - The Miss Tomobiki Contest! A mini-tournament arc featuring the badass beauties of the series facing off against each other and wild animals, this storyline is an awesome and hilarious mix of character gags and action-comedy, and another step towards the style of storytelling Takahashi would employ later in Ranma 1/2!

But while The Miss Tomobiki Contest is definitely the main event, this volume is also jam-packed with a ton of other great and memorable stories, including the origins of Mendo's claustrophobia, the revenge of Galactic Teacher CAO-2, the identity of Ryuu's mother, and Ryuu and Shinobu's "pretend" date! We’ve got a lot of stories to cover, so tune in for our rundown of another eclectic collection of classic Urusei Yatsura adventures!
