Odile's Gaze ,

Review of David Falude’s reading of ‘Sand Banks, 1861’

Hello,

I have just listened to Falude’s reading of his story. Try as I did, I could barely understand his hurried and muddled sounding rendition of his own story, leaving no time to contemplate the word choice or understand the plot which he seemed to be in a terrible hurry to deliver. His reading virtually massacred whatever gifts this author may posses. I also tried to listen to the piece on half speed and also found it unintelligible. His delivery offers no amount of decay as he abruptly truncates the words and renders the reader without an impression.
When listening or reading to The New Yorker I expect quality curation and someone oversees the quality of the material. I had lived in Manhattan for over thirty years. In this case, I was sorely disappointed and fruitlessly wished for the time spent listening to be returned.

Sincerely,
M.C. Grondahl
