    Meet Cohort 5 Assistant Principal Induction Program Participant, Teshara Hooks

    A proud native of upstate New York, Teshara Hooks, is elated to be the Assistant Principal of G. James Gholson Middle School. With over 15 years of experience in the field of education at the elementary, middle, an high school levels, Ms. Hooks is a change agent and visionary leader who commits herself to eradicating educational inequity by preparing life-long learners and leaders through high quality teaching, leadership, and a comprehensive education coupled with excellence and superiority.

    Ms. Hooks holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Chemistry from Spelman College/Howard University and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from Howard University. Throughout her educational journey, Ms. Hooks has successfully served in various capacities to include Mathematics Teacher, Mathematics Department Chair, Curriculum Writer, Program Coordinator, Dean of Evening Programs, Math Coach, Math Specialist, and Title 1 Coordinator to name a few.

    Through her leadership, Ms. Hooks seeks to encourage, ignite, motivate, and inspire. She looks forward to building teacher capacity and planting and watering seeds of excellence and greatness in teachers, staff, and students as a whole.

    Meet Cohort 5 Assistant Principal Induction Program Participant, Duane J. Edwards

    Duane J. Edwards is a first year Assistant Principal at Bladensburg Elementary School. Prior to this position he has served in the capacity of Instructional Lead Teacher (Bladensburg Elementary), Professional School Counselor (Longfields Elementary and John Eager Howard Elementary), and 10th grade English teacher (Somerset County Public Schools).
    Mr. Edwards is a graduate of The University of Maryland Eastern Shore where he received both his Bachelor's (English Education) and Masters (Guidance and Counseling Education) Degrees. He received his CAGS in Education Administration and Policy from Howard University. Currently, Mr. Edwards is working on his Ed.D in Education Leadership at the American College of Education.
    Duane Edwards is very active in his community always willing to help with mentoring programs that will enhance our children’s progress.

    Meet APIP Cohort 5 Participant, Tiffawny Green

    Tiffawny Green is a native Washingtonian. A graduate of District of Columbia Public Schools, she continued her post-secondary education in her hometown earning both her undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Graduate degree in Education (with a focus in Special Education) from The George Washington University. Ms. Green began her career in education in 1999 as a career changer in Prince George’s County’s first cohort of Resident Teachers. Her 19 years in the field of education consist of 2 years teaching Business Education, 5 years as a special education teacher, and 12 years in Special Education Leadership. Assistant Principal at Chesapeake Math & IT Academy - South, Public Charter School is her most recent appointment.

    Ms. Green is married with six children and two grandchildren. She enjoys traveling, baking, cooking, and spending time with her family.

    Meet APIP Cohort 5 Participant, Dr. Mykia Olive Cadet

    Dr. Mykia Olive Cadet proudly serves as the newest Assistant Principal at Ernest Everett Just Middle School. She earned her Bachelor's degree in English Literature and Secondary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. She began her career as a high school English instructor in Maryland. After teaching for three years, she earned the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards’ National Board Certification in Adult/Young Adult English Language Arts. Within the same year, the National Society of High School Scholars, an organization founded and chaired by the Nobel family, recognized Dr. Cadet as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction.

    While serving as an English teacher, University of Maryland Mentor Teacher, National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) Candidate Mentor, and NBCT Candidate Support Provider, Dr. Cadet coordinated and oversaw the instructional, behavioral, and attendance trends of over 800 students in a Ninth Grade Academy program.

    Meet APIP Cohort 5 Participant, Michael Grant

    Michael Grant is the assistant principal at Gladys Noon Spellman Elementary School. Before joining Gladys Noon Spellman, Mr. Grant began his educational career in Prince George’s County Public Schools as a 3rd grade teacher at Concord Elementary. In addition to PGCPS, Mr. Grant spent 6 years serving students and families as a teacher and family involvement coordinator in Houston, Texas. In 2014, Mr. Grant returned to PGCPS where he taught 6th grade, and served as a math instructional lead teacher before being named assistant principal.

    Mr. Grant has been involved in education for over 17 years. He earned his Master’s Degree in Education, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from University of Maryland, College Park.

    As assistant principal, Mr. Grant is looking forward to cultivating and strengthening relationships between all school stakeholders, so that our students can reach their full potential.

    Meet APIP Cohort 5 Participant, Brittany Pace Walker

    Brittany Pace Walker is a native of Maryland and a proud graduate of Prince George’s County Public Schools. She attended John Bayne Elementary, James Madison Middle and Frederick Douglass High School. She studied and received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Delaware State University in Dover, DE. She also received a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland.

    Brittany believes that teaching and leading is a gift, a passion and a purpose. She knows that teaching and leading is not for the faint at heart. But, it is for those who desire to inspire, to motivate, to believe in, to encourage, to cultivate, to enrich, to change perspectives, to change lives, to make great and to educate the next dream chasers, teachers, entrepreneurs and or leaders of our future. Brittany is ready to serve the support staff, teachers, students, parents, and her school community with pride.
