I'm Nico. Welcome to the Stupid Hearts Club Podcast. Allow me tell you a little about the show....

In Summer 2021 after having such lovely feedback from Matt Morgans gorgeous Patrons I decided to start my very own podcast. It started out exclusively here on Patreon, but now it's out in the wild for everyone to hear! I initially called it GSOH and I (usually) delivered one podcast per week. It has become a really cool thing in my life and my community of patrons are legends who give lots of me ace feedback and love. And it helps me support my creative endeavours during the peaks and troughs of the TV comedy world, (script writing is my main 'job').

Since then I have doing lots of music with the name Stupid Hearts Club, and as I am going to be out and about trying to pull people into enjoying all of 'my stuff' I thought I would re-brand (puke) my podcast as Stupid Hearts Club too in the hope of pulling in the odd new listener. Is that YOU? If so Hello, come in, sit down.

You might be wondering what having a 'Stupid Heart' is. Well it can mean many things. It might mean you have a silly sense of humour, and like titting about and being naughty. (which is what this show is) It might mean that you are a hopeless romantic fool despite all the terrible evidence that love is a cruel joke that pokes you in your stupid heart (which is what all my songs are). Either way everyone with a stupid heart is welcome here.

The podcast itself will still be me having a laugh with another person I have met along the way, whether they are funny, interesting, daft, or just plain adorable. But I won't just chat to comedy people anymore. And I will *usually* put a little Stupid Hearts Club tune or cover at the end of the episode.

I'll shut up now. But whatever you are here for, thanks for coming along!

Stupid Hearts Club Forever Baby!

SHC Episode 88 - The Music Dad Podcast - With Christian Le Surf

Welcome to Stupid Hearts Club! The Community for everyone with a stupid, open, loving heart
    -------------------
Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.
What a wonderful, rich, musical treat I have in store for you this week as I drop my second ever official Music Dad podcast. This week my guest is a very very talented lad indeed who goes by the name of Christian Le Surf. I saw Christian NAILING his first ever headline gig the the other week and was blown away by how well arranged his songs were. This episode goes some way to showing where that ability comes from as we get a peek into the mind of a serious musical talent. Christian then plays us acoustic versions of two of his originals, does an ace cover of 'Senses Working Overtime' by XTC, and then pluckily joins me in a rendition of one of my own songs 'The Place Beyond The Tears'.
To enjoy the full effect of how good this dude is absolutely make sure you go and check him out @christianlesurfmusic on Instagram and search for Christian Le Surf on Spotify, Facebook and Bandcamp (which is probably the best place to help him make a few pennies).
    Hope you enjoy

SHC Episode 87 - An Indian Luncheon with Mark Silcox

Welcome to the Stupid Hearts Club! The Club for everyone with a Stupid Heart
    -------------------
    Greetings my Stupid Hearted angels.
This episode of The Stupid Hearts Club Podcast features myself and anti-comedy king Mark Silcox enjoying a sumptuous Punjabi meal in central London on a sunny Friday afternoon and really getting under the bonnet of his comedy philosophy.
I knew I was going to love catching up properly with Mark (which it turns out is a stage name, um...what?) but I had no idea just how deep my admiration would be for his journey from India, to unassuming science teacher to stalwart of the avant-garde UK comedy scene and Uncle Shady in Man Like Mobeen.
This mans mind has to be heard to be believed (yes I'm reclaiming that tire old phrase for the pod world) and frankly I would happily have him on as a regular for his insight and disarming leftfield wit.
    Enjoooyyyyyyy
    Silly Uncle Nicolas

SHC Episode 86 - Rebranded Bonus Series - The Music Dad Podcast

Welcome to the Stupid Hearts Club! The Club for everyone with a Stupid Heart
    -------------------
    Happy June everybody.
I am BACK after a wee sabbatical after celebrating my 50th and boy do I have a good solid month of top poddingtons lined up for you. My various pod projects are starting to move apace and it's all getting rather exciting.
Today I am sharing the first episode of what will now be called The Music Dad Podcast. It's basically the same as 'The Busking Chronicles' in that I talk to a musician and learn a bit about their world, but from today I am leaning more into the idea that I am playing, watching and making more music than ever at the ripe old age of 50. Hence calling myself the Music Dad, as my 'angle'.
I never really felt the busking chronicles was the right title for the several musicky episodes that came before this one (please go and check them out if you haven't already. they are mainly on Patreon). Then along came this episodes guest Delphine, and along with her a whole new surge of energy and a shared commitment to a seriously exciting new joint creative project.
I am so excited to introduce Delphine to you. She is a great kid with bags of talent musically, podilly and just as a human being -and this conversation was kind of the genesis of us joining forces to get not one, but two music podcasts started and out there, both with a different but equally valid mission of encouraging musicians to flourish everywhere.
Coming soon, a post-50th reflective solo and a very lovely, fun comedy chat with comedy man of mystique, Mark Silcox from Man like Mobeen.
Stay tuned and spread the word babies. Things are on the up

SHC Episode 85 - The Glorious Laura Patch

SHC Episode 85 - The Glorious Laura Patch

Welcome to Stupid Hearts Club. The Podcast for everyone with a Stupid Heart!
    -------------------
    Hello lovelies
Back in November my excellent comedy actor pal Laura Patch (from Netflix hit Afterlife) let me into her rather impressive kitchen for a chat about life, writing and processing trauma. That's episode 73 if you want to go back and find it. Now 6 months later, the play she was merely tinkering with back then is up on it's feet as Laura performs it and hones it into it's perfect shape. Last Friday I had a brilliiant catch up with her in Cote in Soho (OooooOOOOoooooh, alright Lawrence LLywellyn Bowen).
We had a further chat about writing about personal experience, and processing trauma which has become a very hot issue the last few weeks since Baby Reindeer arrived and seemingly caught the attention of the whole world, and not always for the better as the hype and opinion furnace began to rage.
After our chat I went and watched Glorious in Clapham on Tuesday where I got to see Laura in action. I also got to meet some of Lauras buddies which was very interesting indeed and only confirms to me how ace and loved she is, the absolute sod.
This ep concludes with me referring back to watching the play, and reflecting on how great it is watching a project go through the stages of finding it's truest self.
    Stirring stuff
    Hope you enjoy
    Nico

Alastair Griggs: "The Innocent Must Suffer"

Alastair Griggs: "The Innocent Must Suffer"

Welcome to the Stupid Hearts Club! The Club for everyone with a Stupid Heart
    -------------------
    Hey babez,
Just two days ago Alistair and I met in a bar in Victoria and had as troubling a conversation as we have ever had. I recorded badly on a Zoom recorder but luckily had my phone mic running.

Tech knobeadry aside, our vile conversation made me feel a lot better about the scorn I regularly spray in Griggs direction because once again he has proved that he has something remarkable and undefined where his should should be.

And in this episode I think we possibly find out the genesis of his bland penchant for unfeelingness. Enjoy it, if that is the right word. Which it isn't.

An Ageing Man In His Own Car

Welcome to the Stupid Hearts Club! The Club for everyone with a Stupid Heart
    -------------------
    Heyo my loves
I present to thee a nice solo catch up I recorded in my car over 2 seperate sittings. I know I am a week off the pace again, sorry. But I am dropping two more eps before the month ends so my heart is still true. In this episode I am telling you about all the little plans that are growing in my pod-world. It's quite exciting I tell thee. There's also a 'Cliff-Riff', which is insinuating absolutely nothing and some gentle coastal sounds to play you out.

    By the way-

I have decided to turn off Patreon billing for the month of April, just to give me the option of doing some catch up stress free during my birthday month. Yes that's right, uncle Ma'am becomes a half centurion on 23rd April.

I will likely still post a few bits but I have got to get the next phase of SHC lined up.
