Legend of the Fort Fisher Hermit
Robert Harrill lived in a WWII bunker near Fort Fisher NC from 1955 until his mysterious death in 1972. He was visited by over 17,000 people per year by people who came to talk and listen to him about his common sense philosophy and political beliefs. Robert was a well educated man who just wanted to live life on his own terms, and for most of his 17 years in the open land around Kure beach he did just that.

The massacre of Fort Griswold.
Known as the battle of Groton Heights or the Fort Groton massacre, it was the last battle of the revolutionary war fought in the Northern states and the deadliest battles in Connecticut. The earth works fort and granite monument stand as a reminder of the lives lost, September 6th, 1781.
