Dan Harris is a fidgety, skeptical journalist who had a panic attack on live national television, which led him to try something he otherwise never would have considered: meditation. He went on to write the bestselling book, 10% Happier. On this show, Dan talks with eminent meditation teachers, top scientists, and even the odd celebrity. Guests include everyone from His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Brené Brown to Karamo from Queer Eye. On some episodes, Dan ventures into the deep end of the pool, covering subjects such as enlightenment and psychedelics. On other episodes, it’s science-based techniques for issues such as anxiety, productivity, and relationships. Dan's approach is seemingly modest, but secretly radical: happiness is a skill you can train, just like working your bicep in the gym. Your progress may be incremental at first, but like any good investment, it compounds over time.

Six practical steps to harness the full power of your mind

Our guest today is James R. Doty, a neurosurgeon who has just written a whole book about the science of manifestation – although, as you’ll hear him admit, there’s very little ‘magic’ involved in his process.

James R. Doty, M.D. is a Stanford neurosurgeon, neuroscientist, compassion researcher, inventor, entrepreneur, author and philanthropist. He’s the founder and director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University.

In this episode we talk about:

    Doty’s six steps to manifest
    - His very interesting backstory
    - The art and science of intention setting and the role of our neural pathways.
    - How caring can ignite our Parasympathetic nervous system, which in turn can help us manifest better
    - Practical tips for embedding an intention into our subconscious.
    - The keys to understanding what we want vs. what we need
    - And how to ‘alert the bloodhound’ to harness the full power of your mind

Janetleeis ,

Great stuff!

At first I thought Dan wasn’t my cup of tea — I’m more into “let’s all just hold hands, be nice and love each other” than smart assery. Plus I’ve been on the journey of awakening for years — wouldn’t I probably already know and practice most of this stuff? (Hah! Gotta love that ol’ ego.) But this is a great podcast! I’ve been inspired by so many episodes, and I truly appreciate what Dan and his fantastic team are bringing to the world. Keep up the great work! And thank you! (Can’t resist throwing a big hug in there too 😉)
