S03.E01: Whose Title is it Anyway?

It’s the first match of season three. For the next nine weeks, you’ll hear from 27 brand new listener contestants battling it out for the next title.

We’ll kick it off this week with Andrew, Conrado, and Alison. Round one will test their melodic memories for songs from 80s movies, but played in a bit of an anachronistic style.

Round two gets us into both movies and TV, with a quiz involving titles in the possessive, but puts the focus elsewhere. It all closes out with a lightning round.

We mention our Patreon content a LOT this week, so why not join up and find out what it’s all about! Bonus episodes! Live game nights! Come one, come all!

Lovelorn confessions on airplanes, iconic (if a little bit modified) lovey-dovey quotes, and your favorite cinematic meet-cutes all pop up in today’s game.

We get into all the clichés, debate the best Nancy Meyers kitchen, and one of our players will be crowned champion after a fierce lightning round that truly runs the rom-com gamut.

We’ll see you next week for season three! Don’t miss it!

Here it is! The season two championship match! Our three divisional champs have come a long way, but only one of them will be our next Super Mondo Champion of Champions! Chris Sims of War Rocket Ajax, Fug Girl Heather Cocks, and Margaret H. Willison from the Appointment Television podcast.

In round one, players will decipher the sworn enemies of certain celebrities by who has an opposite name (e.g. Nia Long vs. Martin Short) before taking a trip to yesteryear by untangling mashups of the most successful movies, books, and songs of a particular year. And of course, it all comes down to the lightning round.

Hang tight, listeners, because season three is cominatcha soon. Don’t miss it!

Willison of the Appointment Television podcast. They’ll pit their pop culture memories against one another to fight for the last slot in next week’s championship match!

After an Olympics-themed My Champion, our players will help build out a cinematic universe started by Gnomeo & Juliet and Sherlock Gnomes with a cabal of gnome-themed cinematic gems. Then, it’s a trip down memory lane for a game surrounding Entertainment Weekly Cover Stories. Print media! As usual, we’ll cap it all off with a tense lightning round.

This week’s playoff barn burner features Chris Sims from War Rocket Ajax, Tim Grierson from the Grierson & Leitch podcast, and Linda Holmes from NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour.

After a trip to the world of school musicals for My Champion, the forecast calls for a quiz on movies with meteorological titles (weather they like it or not).

Round two has an even wider spectrum of titles included in “Pigments of Your Imagination” where players will do some primary and secondary color math to find their favorite pop culture. And of course, a characteristically cutthroat lightning round caps it all off.

One more week of playoffs before we get to the season two championship! Don’t forget to listen next week for the returns of Dan Kois, David Roth, and Margaret H. Willison!

After a sweet game of “My Champion,” our players will name movies and tv shows based on their gross health and safety violations. OSHA is always watching! Then, you’ll find yourself exclaiming “jinkies!” as we pivot to the realm of celebrity cameos and guest stars from the world of Scooby Doo. Then, a tense Lightning Round caps off the game.
