S1E6: A Tassie Expat Community With Olympian Josh Beltz

S1E6: A Tassie Expat Community With Olympian Josh Beltz

We caught up with Tokyo Olympian, Kookaburra hockey player and proud Tasmanian Josh Beltz to talk about his journey through the sport from grass roots through to the pinnacle of the game.

The focus of this podcast is on the growing community of Tasmanian hockey players pursuing their sporting ambitions in Perth, Western Australia.

Having reaped the benefits of being taken under the wing of senior Tasmanian athletes in Perth when he first made the move, we chat with Josh about a changing of the guard and how he's now helping fellow athletes on the same path.

A very humble and down to earth person, Josh also opens up on what keeps him grounded among his growing list of international achievements, as well as his love for home and importance of family and friends no matter what level of competition.

S1E5: Managing Mindfulness with Andy Allison

S1E5: Managing Mindfulness with Andy Allison

In this episode, we chat with Tasmanian distance runner (turned cyclist, turned golfer, turned distance runner again) Andy Allison.

Andy has achieved plenty of success within the running landscape, including big name fun run victories and a mentor to seemingly each new crop of up and coming athletes - his story however hasn't been without its challenges...

This TA Podcast episode delves into his thoughts on the term mindfulness, an outcome of his experience with depression and anxiety over the years. Whilst still learning every day, it's an incredibly insightful and powerful discussion around how different the journey is for everyone and the apps, strategies and tips he has found useful.

The chat with Dominic delves into hanging with AFL players, his introduction to running as well as a conversation around how track and field could learn to be a bigger, more marketable product.

Grab your headphones, this episode is one not to be missed - as we again thank Andy for his time with the Tassie Athlete.

S1E4: The Endurance Addiction with Annabel De Jong

S1E4: The Endurance Addiction with Annabel De Jong

When it comes to tackling Tassie trails, you often don't have to look further than endurance athlete Annabel De Jong.

Having recently completed a 100km run (yes, run) to make up for a missed event, Annie is no stranger to embarking on epic journeys whether on two feet or two wheels.

In this chat with the Tassie Athlete, Annie and Dom discuss where her passion for endurance events started and how it can be such an addictive hobby.

Annie has also had her ups and downs mental health - and opens up on what this looked like for her and, interestingly, how long distance running or riding both helps but also hinders her mindset.

We take a moment to thank Annie for her honesty and candidness around what can be a confronting topic - and if this podcast or discussion around mental health or depression brings up any issues for you, you can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

S1E2: Comprehending Concussion With Izzy Flint

S1E2: Comprehending Concussion With Izzy Flint

Some who witnessed Izzy Flint's crash in New Zealand described it as the most horrific incident they'd ever seen.

Without close family and friends nearby, Izzy had to venture back home to Tasmania with a series of physical injuries but also with what they called a 'severe concussion'. Over the following 18 months, she's had to come to terms with the often hidden impacts of concussion and a different outlook on life.

In her podcast episode with TA, we extend on the article and video previously done featuring Izzy to chat all things cycling, Launceston and concussion; including the importance of family and friends, the challenges of comprehending changes and explaining to others as well as future ambitions.

This episode of the TA Podcast is powered by the Brain Injury Association of Tasmania (BIAT), the peak body for people living with or affected by brain injury across the state. If you've experienced concussion or any effects of brain injury, big or small, you can contact BIAT for information and further assistance.
