In the last few years, Social Media platforms have played a part in major political changes from the Brexit Vote, Victory of Trump to the Rise of Hindutva in India. Their scale can be estimated from the fact that if Facebook was a country, it would have twice the population of China! Naturally, these platforms have become hugely influential, at present the content moderation policies on these platforms are quite arbitrary which has raised concerns about political interference, bias, and foul play.
It is easy to see how powerful they are when they cartelized to de-platform the leader of the free world- the President of the United States with impunity! Such incidents put a question mark on who decides the boundaries of free speech and who is in a position to police them!
