We ask him what the situation is like for LGBTIQA+ people in Indonesia today and what inspired him to write his book, ‘I am That Unicorn’.

The mysterious disappearance this week of the leading opposition voice inside Russia is not a surprise to many. Alexei Navalny was an outspoken lawyer, crusading against corruption and dictators. It shows a ruthlessness in dealing with any potential threats inside Russia.
For the LGBT community, there has been an exodus from Russia. The fear the outcomes of Russia’s expanding anti-LGBT propaganda laws, which effectively ban any public mention of same-sex relations, and the demonstrated ruthlessness of the government in dealing with any perceived opposition, mean that leaving is an act of survival.
