SILENT KILLER The 7 red-flag symptoms of ovarian cancer

SILENT KILLER The 7 red-flag symptoms of ovarian cancer

According to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, most women with ovarian cancer are diagnosed with advanced-stage disease (Stage III or IV). This is because the symptoms of ovarian cancer, particularly in the early stages, often are not acute or intense, and present vaguely. In most cases, ovarian cancer is not detected during routine pelvic exams, unless the doctor notes that the ovary is enlarged. The sooner ovarian cancer is found and treated, the better a woman’s chance for survival. It is important to know that early stage symptoms can be difficult to detect, though are not always silent. As a result, it is important that women listen to their bodies and watch for early symptoms that may present.

Please listen to this brief podcast to learn more about the 7 red-flag symptoms of ovarian cancer.

NIGERIA at 61 - Time to Rebuild the Nigerian Healthcare System; Health Promotion Ambassador- Adaku Efuribe, passionately talks about the need to rebuild the failing healthcare system in Nigeria.

Sustainable development could be defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

An article published in the journal of Pharmacy and BioAllied sciences (J Pharm BioAllied Sci. 2011 Oct-Dec; 3(4): 470–478.), concluded that ‘The Nigerian health care system is poorly developed. No adequate and functional surveillance systems are developed. To achieve success in health care in this modern era, a system well-grounded in routine surveillance and medical intelligence as the backbone of the health sector is necessary, besides adequate management couple with strong leadership principles’ (Welcome, M.O 2011).

'We need to hold our leaders accountable and demand for a practical strategy that would afford us a functional healthcare system though the provision of Universal Health coverage ‘peri/ post’ COVID-19 pandemic' (Adaku Efuribe)

How to love yourself and why this is very important

How to love yourself and why this is very important

To function as an ‘emotionally balanced’ individual, we all need to ‘love our neighbours as our self’. It’s a well-known fact that we cannot give what we don’t have. If you don’t have love inside of you, you cannot show love to others.

Loving yourself would help you develop high emotional intelligence to withstand every form of adversity, difficult moments and bad behavioural attitudes that come your way.

What does ‘loving yourself’ entail?- Listen to this podcast by Adaku Efuribe to learn more!

Reducing the risk of medication related deaths in Nigeria

Reducing the risk of medication related deaths in Nigeria

Adaku Efuribe, throws more light on the dangers of lack of medicines reconciliation and medication review ,using a patient case.

‘As long as we have clinicians who hide the name of prescribed medication from their patients; the rate of duplication of therapy, adverse drug reactions and drug-drug interactions will continue to increase. Patients have the right to know the medicines prescribed for them’

    Adaku Efuribe

As we clamour for universal health coverage and achieving the UN SDG goal3- Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages. There is one simple step we could take to help improve the health and well- being of Nigerians; We need to bridge the gap of lack of integrated healthcare and patient centred care using a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach. We need to put the patient at the centre of care and utilise pharmacist knowledge and input if we must prescribe legally and safely.
