    Mayoral Candidate Marshall Runkel

Marshall Runkel is a Portland city hall veteran who has worked for three former city commissioners, most recently Commissioner Chloe Eudaly. He announced his bid for Portland mayor last week and visited the BikePortland Shed for his first in-depth interview on Friday, June 14th.
Marshall and BikePortland Founder/Editor/Publisher Jonathan Maus talked about Marshall's approach to politics, his love of riding the bus, how he rode with Critical Mass as an advisory for Commissioner Erik Sten in the early 2000s, his experience working on housing and homelessness issues, how he will use his work experience in the clean energy sector to help Portland, why he loves the Portland Trail Blazers and wants to bring a WNBA team here, and much more!

    City Council Candidate Marnie Glickman

    City Council Candidate Marnie Glickman

Marnie Glickman thinks she has the recipe for progressive political success in Portland. Glickman is a leading candidate for City Council District 2 (North/Northeast) and met up with her Tuesday for a bike ride and an interview to learn more about what we can expect if she's elected.
Glickman has lived in Portland off-and-on since 1992 when she paid $175 a month for rent on SE 28th and Steele and biked all over the city. Now 53, and after three decades working in politics and organizing, Glickman is ready to commit to her favorite city. After meeting at her home in the Sabin neighborhood, Glickman wanted to show me a community garden she sits on the board of, and then we rolled over to Irving Park where we sat on two large logs and talked under towering trees while rain fell overhead.

Megan Ramey, Hood River County Bicycling Advocate

Megan Ramey is doing so many cool things to make bicycling better in Hood River it was hard to decide on just one way to introduce her when we connected for an online interview this past Thursday.
The main hat she wears is Safe Routes to School program manager for Hood River County. But if you’ve followed her on X or Instagram, you’ll know she’s up to all sorts of cool stuff — from lobbying for e-bike legislation and donating free used bikes, to leading afterschool bike clubs and getting grants for demonstration projects.
    During our conversation, Megan shared:
how she first got involved in transportation reform advocacy, how raising a daughter sharpened her appetite for safe streets work, what a typical week is like for her,how some folks have the wrong impression about the type of families who call Hood River County home, what she’ll do with a recent $25,000 federal safety grant, why she started afterschool bike clubs for elementary school kids and the impact it has had on them, what music is most often requested for the ride playlists these days,
    and more!
