Ep. 25: Avoiding Pigment Bounce Back The Power of Protons

    • Fashion & Beauty

As we make our way towards the cooler months here in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s likely that your clients will be looking to reverse some of the effects of summer – specifically new pigmentation and brown spots that have been stimulated to the surface.

For decades, the professional beauty, dermal and aesthetics industry have approached the treatment of pigmentation with modalities like IPL and Laser, alongside chemical peels, microneedling and possibly microdermabrasion – procedures that aim to get rid of the old, over pigmented cells and stimulate the proliferation of new fresh daughter cells that hopefully find their way back up to the surface without the same over-population of melanin as their predecessors.

Unfortunately, despite best intentions, we can overlook the fact that the hyper pigmentation has often been triggered by trauma, inflammation and possibly a hormonal influence in the case of melasma for example and that rehabilitating the temperamental melanocyte takes a very careful balance so as not to overstimulate him again and cause a rebounding pigment stream that comes back with a vengeance to better protect the new cells.

So how do we best avoid pigment bounce back whilst still offering the measurable and long-lasting results that our clients are seeking?

Listen up – this episode will explore the process of melanogenesis, treatments that hold risk to trigger pigment bounce back and prudent measures to reduce the risks in our treatment programs.
