Episode 5 (actually s 7 ep 1): 10 Ways to 10x the Creative Economy of a Small Community MAD (Marketing And Design) Nights

    • Business

MAD Nights started out as a meetup in Kelowna, BC Canada, focused on content for marketers and designers from the context of living and working in smaller communities (small markets). We've been transitioning to a podcast format. Soon we will be adding an additional thread to the conversation entitled - MAD Nights Big City - where we'll focus on content for marketers and designers living and working in bigger cities (large markets). For now, let's focus on our small market community members...

This podcast episode was recorded September 27, 2018. It kicked off our 7th season, which ran from September to May each year.

If you live in a small community, everything is smaller... there’s a smaller pool of investors, a smaller pool of talent, and a smaller number of job opportunities. Or is there?

What if what you believed about your community was wrong? What if you could 10x the economy of your local community? And what if you could 10x your 10x?

At this meetup and recording of this podcast episode, Chris Gliddon inspires and facilitates a discussion around the power of community and collaboration when mixed with entrepreneurship. We talk about ideas, shared inspiration, and thoughts around education, sales, collaboration and how to take action that can stimulate and grow the creative economy in a small community, city, town or village where the opportunities seemingly reflect the size of where we live and work.

Strategic consultant Chris Gliddon has supported a variety of businesses and their products, through storytelling, and community-building strategies. After eight years in management at Disney, Chris co-founded his own company, Nicely Said, with a mission to support entrepreneurs with the growth of their small to medium sized businesses. Chris was the first official “community manager” for Disney's Club Penguin, accountable for fostering the brand's relationship with its sizeable 350 million global user audience. In 2015, he started the Kelowna Slack channel, which has become a virtual private ‘switchboard” for over 1,200 people in the vibrant Okanagan tech community.

One of the best things and probably what we'll miss most from our meetup events were the lively discussions and thoughtful questions that came from the passionate marketers and designers that would attend our events, and this event was no different. Hang in there and follow along and Chris will bring it all back around to why this topic and the resulting conversation was so important... and why it should continue.
