PUSS IN BOOTS (2011)
The animators behind Shrek 2 were the first to fall in love with Puss In Boots, quickly sensing the potential this mysterious feline had to lead his own animated adventure. Originally developed to be released on home video, but soon expanded into a big screen epic inspired by James Bond, Indiana Jones and Sergio Leone, it’s 2011’s PUSS IN BOOTS
Nick and Scott have a treasure hunt of their own in this rousing and romantic episode of FRANCHISIGRAPHY.

SHREK FOREVER AFTER (2010)
Jeffery Katzenberg was rarely accused of thinking too small. Back in 2004, before Shrek 2 had even hit theaters, the mastermind of DreamWorks Animation announced no less than three more adventures starring the beloved grumpy and horny ogre. But despite grossing over $800 million at the box office, 2007’s Shrek The Third was considered a disappointment by most. And what’s more, the house that Shrek built was changing.
New franchises like Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon were catching on with critics and families. After a decade of hustling, DreamWorks Animation had finally earned a place in the public consciousness when it came to animated feature films, a place unique from their rivals at Disney and Pixar. Maybe it was finally time to really let Shrek retire to his beloved swamp.
But before riding off into the sunset, a new team of artists and animators would come together to bring Shrek’s hero’s journey full circle with 2010’s SHREK THE FINAL CHAPTER 3D, also known as SHREK FOREVER AFTER.
Nick and Scott’s own journey through Far Far Away reaches its peak as they find unexpected riches in this underrated finale. Join us for another delightful episode of FRANCHISOGRAPHY

SHREK THE THIRD (2007)
The son of a bitch had done it again.
Shrek 2 may have lost the Best Animated Feature Oscar to The Incredibles, but the film was another massive success both with critics and at the worldwide box office. DreamWorks co-founder Jeffery Katzenberg had come a long way since his Disney banishment less than a decade ago.
In the wake of Shrek 2’s victory lap, Katzenberg announced that the karaoke dance party was far from over. No less than three Shrek sequels were now in the works, with the fifth film promising to reveal the burning mystery of how Shrek ended up in his beloved swamp. But first, DreamWorks Animation had to try and top themselves yet again with the first of these new chapters, 2007’s SHREK THE THIRD.
Many Shrekheads consider this third chapter to be the weakest in the entire franchise. Will Scott and Nick find anything to love? Find out in an uproarious episode of FRANCHISOGRAPHY

SHREK 2 (2004)
Somewhere in the making of Shrek, Jeffery Katzenberg had a feeling he had a hit on his hands. And with his fledging DreamWorks Animation still fighting to stay in the ring with Disney and Pixar, little time was lost before work on a sequel began.
Producer Aron Warner did not share Katzenberg’s unreserved enthusiasm for a sequel to Shrek’s perfect fairytale ending. The first film was a once-in-a-generation classic that transcended age, race and nationality, winning over critics, audiences and families around the world.
Could SHREK 2 really do all that again?
Nick and Scott continue their whirlwind big city adventure through the franchise that rewrote the book on Hollywood animation with another rip-roaring episode of FRANCHISOGRAPHY

SHREK (2001)
Once upon a time... there was a powerful film producer named Jeffery Katzenberg who had a crisis upon him of a fearful sort, which could only be fixed by creating a hit animated film.
Katzenberg was banished from his old kingdom at Walt Disney Studios, so he helped create a new kingdom, DreamWorks, which would help him make an animated film greater than anything he made at Disney. Many brave animated films were sent off to win glory for Katzenberg, but none prevailed.
Then one day, Katzenberg learned of an ogre named SHREK, a character unlike any he had seen before. Maybe this ogre could do what no one else could, and save the kingdom of DreamWorks.
