Episode 03 - After The Curfew (Lewat Djam Malam)

Episode 03 - After The Curfew (Lewat Djam Malam)

On this week's episode, we're going way way waaaaay back in time to 1954, to the release of one of Indonesia's biggest contribution to cinema (according to Scorcese), which is "After the Curfew" (known in Indonesia as "Lewat Djam Malam").

Made by the father of Indonesian cinema, Usmar Ismail, this movie is an unskippable chapter in any Indonesian cinephile's movie list, so naturally, as two bozos who know nothing about Indonesian cinema, we had to watch it.

Episode 02 - Aruna & Her Palate (Aruna & Lidahnya)

On this episode of South East Picture Show, we delve into the culinary landscape of Indonesia with 2018's Aruna & Her Palate. A cute but often quite disjointed movie about a group of friends on the road tasting the local cuisine, while also...solving a bird flu epidemic(?) Tune in to hear how well this movie satiated OUR appetite for Indonesian cinema.

Episode 01 - One Day We'll Talk About Today (Nanti Kita Cerita Tentang Hari Ini)

Episode 01 - One Day We'll Talk About Today (Nanti Kita Cerita Tentang Hari Ini)

This is the first episode of South East Picture Show, and we're diving headfirst into one of the biggest Indonesian movies released in 2020; "Nanti Kita Cerita Tentang Hari Ini". Directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko and written by him alongside Jenny Jusuf and Melarissa Sjarief, this movie explores the turmoils and trauma experienced by a small family and how the things they kept from each other eventually start to bubble to the surface.

We'll be talking about the strange route they took the characters, some which worked, and some others that didn't. As well as where we felt the movie falters as well as where it shined.
