Welcome to the fifteenth episode of zero to one podcast. Today I have the chance to sit down with my first international music photographer who has quite a robust resume when it comes to shooting some of today's most prominent artists. Matt has devoted many years to photography, and it has led him to opportunities with acts such as Coldplay, Lumineers, Bon Iver, and most notably, his US tour with Young the Giant. I had the chance to connect with Matt through my first guest April, and when I first saw his pictures, I was intrigued by not only the energy he captures but the color in his photographs. I think these pictures are almost an extension of who he is as a person, and I'm so excited for you to hear his story.
In today's interview, we discuss Matts's developmental years with music photography and how critical it is to take every opportunity early on. We discuss his experience with traveling abroad to Argentina and how that allowed him to photograph Coldplay. We talk about some of the photographers that have inspired him. Matt then talks about his involvement touring with Young the Giant and how that was a bucket list item for him. He then proceeds to tell us about some of the challenges that come with touring and how having the right balance between home life and tour life is necessary. Matt also has a lot of great wisdom to give when it comes to encouraging people who might also want to pursue music photography.
