In this episode of Hennapreneur, Anndell Wubben, Hennapreneur PRO Graduate and owner of Henna Harvest, talks with host Chelsea Stevenson about her experience with Hennapreneur and the incredible impact it has had on her business growth.

    Anndell jumped right away at the opportunity to work with Chelsea and was very excited to get started. She shares that one of the hardest things for her to do was to just be patient and follow the process, but says it was worth it in the long run. Anndell attributes much of her business growth to her brick and mortar, which was not easy to get as she wanted a very specific location downtown. By putting your dreams out into the universe and then consistently putting in the work to make them happen, you will prove to yourself that you are much more capable than you thought.

    It is scary to take a leap of faith and make an investment in yourself. But if you never take that leap, you will never know what you could have accomplished. We are so much more capable than we give ourselves credit for. If you want to be working smarter, not harder, and achieve your dream of earning a full time income through your henna, it is time to commit to your dream and take that first step.

    Are you relying on word of mouth as a business marketing strategy? It’s understandable, especially when you’re early on in your business, that you’d be excited by people talking about you and your art. However, word of mouth is a passive strategy that is difficult to track and which can actually impact your business in a negative way rather than a positive one. In this episode of Hennapreneur, host Chelsea Stevenson talks about why word of mouth just is not enough as your main marketing strategy.

    Word of mouth is great for filling in the gaps after your primary marketing strategy has taken off, but it should not be the main way you are attracting clients. If you are not already making and maintaining a solid monthly revenue, it is best to avoid word of mouth as a strategy. People tend to be drawn to others who are similar to them. If you have a client who is not well-aligned with your business and they start recommending you to others, it is highly likely that those referrals will be poorly aligned as well. Additionally, when it comes to reviews, people tend to write and talk about negative experiences more often than positive ones. So it is quite possible that word of mouth will actually harm your business more than it helps it.

    When you’re early into your business and excitedly handing out business cards, stop and think for a moment what type of clients you want to attract. Be very intentional about your marketing strategy and use word of mouth only to fill in the gaps. Do not rely on word of mouth alone, because it is too passive of a tactic. It is impossible to track word of mouth and ensure that the types of people being drawn to your business are actually good clients.

It’s great to be passionate about your art, but it is just as important, if not more important, to remember that you are also running a business. In this episode of Hennapreneur, host Chelsea Stevenson talks about why your money goals matter and how to feel more comfortable handling the numbers.

    As a henna artist, you deserve to be compensated fairly for your work and talent, and it is completely possible to use your art to gain financial independence. When you get really clear on your financial goals while being cognizant of your energetic capacity, you can actually reverse engineer your marketing and operational strategies to lead you directly to those goals. Looking at the numbers does not have to be intimidating. Instead, view money as pure data. This data will help you to align your actions within your business with your goals.

    Even though henna is an artistic pursuit, it is still a business and should be treated like one. Your money goals are important for determining exactly what steps you need to take within your business to be fulfilled and successful. By shifting your mindset about money, you can begin aligning your marketing plan with your short and long term goals.

    Have you been undervaluing your work? Many henna artists are doing themselves a disservice by pricing their work at rates far below their worth.  In this episode of Hennapreneur, host Chelsea Stevenson talks about how to best value your work and what to consider when creating your rates.

    Artists will always view their work as flawed. However, the quality of your work should not be solely what your rates are based on. You have to own your own inherent value and the things that make the experience of working with you unique for your clients. You are not just providing a design. It is important to think about what you offer your clients that they could not get from a different artist. It may be that you provide a safe space for people to feel seen and understood, and how can you put a dollar amount on that? When your clients really feel connected with you, they will overlook any flaws in your art and choose to work with you based on that connection.

    By focusing only on the quality of your art, you are forgetting all the wonderful things that really make clients want to work with you. Do not box yourself in. If you undervalue your work and don’t charge what you are worth, you will be unable to grow your business. Instead, consider what makes working with you a unique experience for your clients and base your rates on that value.
