Not Ready to Make Nice: The Dixie Chicks and The Ego-Function of Protest Rhetoric (Sigma 2020)

I originally wrote this paper for ENG 318 (Writing and Activism) and ended up submitting it for the 2020 Sigma Tau Delta Conference. It was selected, but never officially presented (damn you Coronavirus!). Anyway, here's me reading it. Here's a link to the full text of my paper. Here's a link to the academic essay I was responding to ("The Ego-Function of Protest Rhetoric" by Richard Gregg). Here's a link to the song this paper was titled after.

    The Squeeze (Hollywood East)

    The Squeeze (Hollywood East)

In this first episode of the Hollywood East podcast, we discuss The Squeeze, a little-known comedy shot in Wilmington in 1986. The Squeeze was one of the first productions shot on the Screen Gems Studio lot as the film industry emerged in the Cape Fear region. Our guest, Dany Moore, was a background actor in this film, and during our interview, we discuss his memories of Wilmington during this era, this particular production, and our mutual appreciation of the film's star, Michael Keaton.

Our introductory audio ("Coming soon to a theater near you...") is courtesy of Timbre from freesound.org. Transitions ("!") and underlying audio ("Rose Ornamental") are courtesy of Anchor's free transitory and "smart background" audio collection. Sources of information for our monologue include IMDB, TvGuide, Roger Ebert, and the Wilmington Regional Film Commission.
