उन्हें उपन्यास पढ़ने का ऐसा चस्का था कि बुकसेलर की दुकान पर बैठकर ही उन्होंने सारे उपन्यास पढ़ लिए और दो-तीन सालों के भीतर सैकड़ों उपन्यास पढ़ डाले।
आज उनकी जयंती है उनका जन्म 31 जुलाई 1880 को वाराणसी के नज़दीक लमही गांव में हुआ था।
जी हाँ बात हो रही है धनपतराय जी की जो कि उनका वास्तविक नाम था और साहित्य, कथा, कहानियाँ पसंद करने वालों की दुनिया में वे अमर हुए मुंशी प्रेमचंद के नाम से।
उन्होंने स्वयं यॉन नाम बदल कर मुंशी प्रेमचंद रखा था।
मुंशी प्रेमचंद को हिंदी और उर्दू के महानतम लेखकों में शुमार किया जाता है।
मुंशी प्रेमचंद की रचनाओं को देखकर बंगाल के विख्यात उपन्यासकार शरतचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय ने उन्हें 'उपन्यास सम्राट' की उपाधि दी थी।
यूं तो मुंशी प्रेमचंद की हर रचना बहुमूल्य है जो अपने समय की सच्चाई को बयां करती हैं और उनकी ख़ासियत है कि वे आज भी प्रासंगिक हैं।
पर आज मैं आपके सामने उनकी लिखी एक अलग ही किस्म की कहानी पढ़ रहा हूँ। "लैला"

He has worked as a Radio Professional in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and in Mumbai for some time.
