S3E4: "She's playing the victim" - The Media Against Women

S3E4: "She's playing the victim" - The Media Against Women

TW: This episode contains discussions on mental health, depression, suicide, bulimia, and sexual harassment, assault, and abuse.

This episode Alice and Nicolette look into how women are often problematically painted by the media and society, and the discussions that surround those portrayals. Our hosts deep dive into how and women are often illustrated as manipulative and victim-playing, are wiped from the mainstream story, or have to put themselves in the public eye while their perpetrators are protected. The ladies look at current examples, from the discussions that circulated about Meghan Markle in the days following her interview with Harry and Oprah, to the allegations of sexual assault in Australian Parliament. It's a big episode, with big questions, and big reasons why things need to change.

    S3E3: Rejection and Redirection

    S3E3: Rejection and Redirection

Unfortunately none of us go through our twenties without becoming familiar with rejection. This episode Alice and Nicolette talk about the rejections they've faced (romantic, professional and otherwise), and the pain and possibility that accompanied them. They unpack exactly why it is rejection is so painful, how they can see rejections in their past as some of their greatest blessings, the difficulty of being in the position of having to reject someone else, and ultimately, how rejection may be something we can learn to celebrate if we can reframe it as leading us in a new direction.

    S3E1: Finding Your Voice

    S3E1: Finding Your Voice

    We 👏 are 👏 back 👏 !!!

Alice and Nicolette are kicking off season 3 by diving deep (like a whooole 40 minutes worth) into how they're finding and using their voices as young twenty-something year olds. For them, 2020 was equal parts disempowering and empowering. In some ways, they found their voices, but in others they felt completely gagged. As they reflect on the past year (and in particular the past 6 months without the podcast), they discuss how their voices and lives have changed not just as a result of a global pandemic but as a consequence of nearing the end of their university degrees, the prospect of full time work, leaving and entering relationships, and basically growing up in the real world. (See time stamps below.)

    S2E8: Keeping Up Appearances

    S2E8: Keeping Up Appearances

Here's an ep for everyone, whether you're into a bold wing or a fresh face. Let us give you the lowdown on makeup from priming to final touches - we go through how makeup is stereotypically perceived vs how we think of it, why we do our makeup and who it's for, the ways makeup is a ritual, how makeup looks have changed over time and from country to country, and the accessibility of products. Alice asks if makeup is a source of joy or a social norm to be challenged, Nicolette makes a Freudian slip, and both ladies try to answer the age old question, 'Why does everyone have an opinion on everyone else's appearance?'

S2E7: Act II (aka When Life Throws You Lemons, Make Limoncello)

S2E7: Act II (aka When Life Throws You Lemons, Make Limoncello)

After a two month long interlude, Seeing 20/20 is back for part 2 of our second season (woo!). Having reached the half way point in the year (first of all, how??), this episode we reflect on the year so far, discuss how motivation changes with routine (or lackthereof), and look forward to what we can expect in Act 2 of 2020. There's a cute book recommendation from Nicolette, a very fitting lemon metaphor from Alice, and the promise of a very introspective and spicy final 6 episodes in 2.
