Bonus: The Tour Bus Tapes-Amanda Palmer 2008

Bonus: The Tour Bus Tapes-Amanda Palmer 2008

A little background on what's going on with this episode.
We hoped that when Tea Room Dialogs is on hiatus, we would periodically post some random extra episode as a mid-season break special. But with everything else going on at The Estate lately, we haven't had much time. However, we did come across this sporadic audio recording from one of our Estate Caretakers. We decided it's a fascinating snapshot into ... let's call it, a bit of Estate lore.
We don't know the actual date of the recording. There's consensus that it was a pre-Obama era, but whether it was before or after the election is unclear.
What we can say for certain is that at some point in what we believe mid-to-late 2008, The Estate's very own Ada King found herself on a tour bus with Amanda Palmer and a cell phone with a voice recorder.
We feel this is informative because when people ask 'what kind of people would make such a thing as The Satanic Estate?' we are obliged to answer. And near as we can ascertain the answer is 'the kind of people who were doing independent entertainment journalism the midst of the great recession'.
Now, to put this in context for Amanda Palmer fans, it is generally agreed upon that this was most likely during touring for the 'Who Killed Amanda Palmer?' album, which is significant because it would put it right before she would go on to the ridiculously successful Kickstarter that lead to Art of Asking and redefining the patron model for creatives. So we hope you find this candid glimpse into an earlier part of a truly unique career enjoyable.
    All the best,
    The Caretakers

    Shiva Honey

    Shiva Honey

While preparing the grounds of the Estate for Hexennacht, our caretaker Saint Licorice popped into the Ritual Chamber to have some tea and a chat with Shiva Honey, creator of Satanic rituals and so much more.
Shiva tells us about her fascination with Gritty (the Philadelphia Flyers’ mascot), her approach to ritual, and her outlook on teaching and learning. We learn about the wide array of projects that Shiva is pursuing from music to becoming a death doula. Shiva charts her journey as a Satanist from growing up as a kid all the way to her recent role as a Minister of Satan.
Through a heartfelt conversation, Saint Licorice and Shiva dive even further into the nature of art, the practice of Satanism, gurus, mental health and well-being, and so much more. Shiva will be appearing on a panel related to mental health and Satanism during Hexennacht at the Estate.
Shiva has been part of The Satanic Temple since 2014 as a founding member of the Detroit Chapter. She served on the National Council and now, through her shop Serpentinae, offers a wide variety of boutique rituals.

    Thomas O'Brien Vallor

    Thomas O'Brien Vallor

We find Maryline Spicy and Thomas O’Brien Vallor in the Back Parlor of The Satanic Estate lounging in comfy velvet chairs, sipping on some chamomile and lavender.
During this episode of the Tea Room Dialogues, we discover that, contrary to popular belief, witches and Satanists aren’t all that somber or sinister. This episode’s guest is Thomas O’Brien Vallor, a veteran tour guide of Salem, Massachusetts, and a regular performer at The Estate. Thomas is known for his very vibrant personality and the Estate wouldn’t be the same without him. The conversation starts with a graceful note of humility as he tells us about how he earned his moniker: Salem Witch Wiles.
Our favorite Satanic tour guide takes us down memory lane we go from a studious childhood to becoming a historian, a witch and a Satanist. We get to know how he reconciles being both the Satanist and the Witch in his practice. We learn about Thomas and his rituals, his vision, and his version of both cultures.
As a historian, of course, Thomas teaches us a bit of the shared past of satanists and witches. He touches on the satanic panic and the evil stereotype of satanic witches.
With Hexxennacht coming up, Thomas is planning his next performances at the Estate and this is where to get the tea in the Back Parlor at The Satanic Estate.

    The Satanic Chef

    The Satanic Chef

Welcome to the Tea Room Dialogues
After a nice dinner at the Estate, it’s tea time! The Estate's own Maryline Spicy has a chat while eating freshly baked scones with the Satanic Chef.
It all starts with laughter, a recipe and a flavor. You can already tell how delightful this interview is going to be! Just listen to him talk about his passion! You better be ready for a buffet of emotions! You’ll laugh, you’ll “awww” and you’ll want seconds!
As we lounge in the beautiful winter garden sipping on a nice hot brew, Adam tells us about his early interest in satanism. We retrace his amazing adventures and life experience. This is the Genesis of our very own Adam, the Satanic Chef.
You get all the tea: from endearing childhood stories about discovering the occult and finding his interest for cooking, to Culinary school and working (hard!) in the industry, all while meeting amazing people and traveling coast-to-coast. Discover Adam’s practices as a Chef and as a Satanist, his friends, peers and mentors but also his upcoming projects, his style and ethics!
Satanist as can be, the Chef encourages us to not only better our plates but ourselves by gaining knowledge in the culinary dark arts ...but not only! He shares with us his proudest accomplishments and what makes him happy.
Yes, there is a whole Jack moment in here, no good protagonist without a sidekick!
The final touch, cherry on the cake: memories and memorabilia
