Facing Imposter Syndrome
Have you ever felt not quite worthy of the praise you are receiving or a little bit worried that someday others will find you out to be a fraud? Perhaps when you try something new, your self-confidence disappears and you find yourself wondering why you left that job you were so good at. If so, it’s possible that you’re experiencing a bit of Imposter Syndrome. But what does that actually mean? And how can you start to work with it? In this episode Katie looks at some of her own moments of Imposter Syndrome and explains how she faces it and helps her clients to get through it as well. We also discuss the presence of bias and how that might create the illusion of imposter syndrome.

Humour Seriously – Creative Book Club
Yes were finally back with a creative book club edition. This month we’ve been reading “Humour, Seriously: Why Humour is a Secret Weapon in Business and Life” by Jennifer Aaker and Naomi Bagdonas. Published by Random House in 2020. These two Stanford Business School professors (and improv actors) take us through why we should be using more humour at work and how to get started. If you think that requires being a comedy genius you’d be wrong. How about creating more opportunities for levity, finding moments of delight and bringing a bit more joy to the workplace (and life)?
In this episode, Katie highlights the parts of the book she found most interesting and shares some of her own views on humour and leadership. It’s a great book if your looking to lead in a more connected, authentic and effective way, and also have some fun with your teams, after all we are people not just resources.

Opening up (at the airport)
Vishal and Katie have just finished running a career training and coaching programme at a top business school and they managed to sit down at the airport on the way back to get the Raise Your Voice episodes back on track.
They talk about what they've been doing, why they do it and how it impacts their clients. Beyond this they discuss how these interactions impact them and change the direction of their own stories.
In a new take on sharing our stories, we asked for a prompt question (and got a really difficult one): What’s the internal story you’re telling yourself? Katie has a stab at answering this while Vishal escapes.

On Grief
In the first episode of 2022, Katie talks openly about the grief of losing her brother Toby in early January, as well as how that has reopened the feelings of loss of the rest of her family of origin. As heavy as that sounds, we try to do this in a light way, hoping to encourage others to be open about their losses and not suffer them alone.
We look particularly at the importance of stories in dealing with death and loss as well as some creative rituals that can help with learning to operate in the world without the person you’ve lost. above all we talk about the need for human connection.
