In this episode of 'Two Strike Noise,' hosts Jeff and Mark discuss Seattle Mariners' rare place in the standings, the final players on our Field of Dreams whiskey, the pros for tasing fans on the field (there are no cons!),  a Brewers employee's side hustle as a hitman and Jackson Holliday's unique/scary tribute baseball card.

Episode 252 - Bob Thurman, Negro League Star, Is In How Many Hall of Fames?

Episode 252 - Bob Thurman, Negro League Star, Is In How Many Hall of Fames?

This week continue our irrelevant trip through the goofy history of major league baseball. Steve Stone's crystal ball from 1992 seems like it might be a little off regarding Sammy Sosa, we try to put together a GoFundMe for a new, err old, Babe Ruth jersey and find out who did we get on one of our Field of Dreams whiskey. Our main segment is all about a player from the Negro Leagues and eventually big leagues we had not heard about before, Bob Thurman. He played well, all over and with some huge names. Wax Pack Heroes comes down to stirrups. So needless to say, we were both very happy about that, one more than the other, but still happy none the less.

    Episode 215 - MLB’s Latest Numbers Game

    Episode 215 - MLB’s Latest Numbers Game

The Wicked Witch Is DEAD errr, RETIRED! This week we discuss the retirement of MLB umpires Angel Hernandez and Paul Emmel, a high schooler who enlisted one of the biggest MLB stars to help him ask a girl to prom, scouting umpires that tip pitches. They also dive into various baseball history topics, including debates about the best second baseman, stories of Mike Marshall, Todd Burns, and Deion Sanders' debuts, and the Griffey father-and-son shared date? The episode ends with a deep dive on newly integrated Negro League stats into MLB records and a spirited game of 'Wax Packs Heroes'. No AI was used in the making of this episode, but a lot of it was to write this summary. All hail our new robot overlords.

Episode 250 - They Still Let Us Make These?

Episode 250 - They Still Let Us Make These?

Wow, 250 baseball history episodes and they haven’t fired us yet. Alot to get though this week. Khrush Davis crushes cars now, the next gen baseball card relics, more whiskey content but this time baseball related, the weekly Seinfeld story and some ideas to keep pitchers healthy. Our main segment is all about 250. We look at a bunch of players who totaled 250 at something during their careers. Some are surprising and others are Sam Horn. We have a special Wax Pack Heroes episode with virtual cards from a long time listener. Are the cards stacked against one of us? Find out!

Episode 249 - Tales From the Dugout v38

Episode 249 - Tales From the Dugout v38

As long as there’s baseball there’s going to new baseball history and this week we’ve got new Topps cards for, checks notes, hot dogs? We have a JJ Hardy landscaping update, a leftover 420 thought that could revolutionize jerseys (they can’t get any worse), we rag on John Fisher, again, plus we got some good debuts to discuss. In our Tales segment Mark highlights a 5 tool prospect who left us too early, we get to the bottom of Rod Murphy’s 1990Upper Deck baseball card and we remember a minor league games (not involving Cal Ripken) that didn’t want to end and what one fan had to do to catch the end of it.Wax Pack Heroes includes a special pack sent to us by a listener which let us talk about some players we haven’t brought up before. Thanks top listener Andrew Harner!

Episode 248 - The Animal, Brad Lesley

Episode 248 - The Animal, Brad Lesley

What a weird week it’s been in baseball. Bees, cats and sausages are only the tip of the iceberg. Beanballs in Philly before a game, the Rockies refuse to take the lead and blue collar baseball cards are now a thing. But this is a baseball history podcast, so let’s talk about Brad Lesley. The Animal played briefly in MLB, but he became a star both on the field and on the silver screen once he moved to Japan. A mixture of professional wrestler and fireball closer, Lesley was our kind of guy.Game two of Wax Pack Heroes is a great one if you’re a fan of manager cards. Somebody has to be a fan of manager cards, right?
