We discuss toxic masculinity in Asian American culture and share vulnerable experiences from our toxic/abusive relationships. We also talk about what we've learned from our relationships and offer advice on recovering from toxic/abusive relationships and learning to move forward with love.

My guest Jacqueline and I talk about what it's gradually find confidence in our Asian American identity, especially coming from two different perspectives. Jacqueline grew up Chinese American and was adopted by two white parents. I grew up under a more traditionally pathway: with immigrant Chinese parents. In the latter half of the episode, we talk about what it's like to date as a woman of color, especially in a society that constantly tells us we're not white enough to be beautiful or attractive.

CORRECTION: Jacqueline mentions her parents being third generation white Americans in this episode. They're actually second generation Americans!

I talk about anti-blackness in Asian American communities/families and what it means to have privilege despite not having white privilege. I discuss recent events that have occurred including screenshots being released revealing racist comments from NYU's Lambda Phi Epsilon chapter and from my peers in my high school, Stuyvesant High School. I also talk about racism and colorism passed down to us young Asian Americans by older generations, why we should start having conversations with our families and why I choose to believe in a culture where we are educating people and not cancelling them.

My guest Louis and I start off by discussing our transitions to college, grades and choosing a career path. Along the way, we realized that a lot of the decisions we make have to do with our immigrant parents and the sacrifices they made for us to thrive. They weren't always perfect growing up (neither were we!), but this episode is about acceptance and understanding.

Welcome to the first episode of Yellow with a Dash of... In this episode, I discuss why I wanted to start this podcast, my journey dealing with internalized/internal racism and struggling with self-acceptance as an Asian American. In addition to the dash of dealing with internalized racism in this episode, I'm including a side of my experiences going to a predominantly white university in the South and how they changed the way I saw myself as an Asian American.
