Emotional nostalgia with a dose of grumpy old men

A mostly entertaining podcast in which three gamers take on up to three games per episode, discussing first the history of their creation, then their own memories of the games and then what they're like now. The game selection covers a good range though most of it seems to be either classics or games seen in HVGN-episodes. Occasionally the memories are more entertaining than others, and fairly often the show also just devolves to everyone glamoring over how great the given game is. It's a bit monotone, but the people involved seem to be emotionally invested at all times, so it's still fun to listen to. The personal touchstones that you get out of the podcasters discussing their own childhoods in relation to these games is the thing you come here for though, and it's great in that respect. My biggest gripe is the occasional appearance of the "grumpy old man"-mentality, as the group also covers a selection of current news in each episode. These segments feel out of place, but even worse, they reveal that our hosts are mostly hopelessly caught in some plain of nostalgia where old is good and nothing new, whether imitating the old or reinventing it entirely, will never live up to the old. It's kind of awkward to listen to, at least if you don't share that sentiment. But overall this is definately an entertaining and most of all thorough investigation into the childhoods of random dudes. That's something more podcasts should go for.
