#300: Myf once met Lana Del Rey's alligator tour guide boyfriend

Myf and Zan are back and marking 300 episodes of Bang On! Saddle up for a wild episode capturing the week that was. Oasis' return, Adele's departure, Lana Del Rey's rumoured new boyfriend. Wait till you hear Myf's story about him. We're catching up on hot goss since we last hung out too, including Logies chat and Myf's run in with a plover. Speaking of birds, we have some key Peregrine Falcon updates for the new series. Who would have thought when we started back in 2017 that "music, art, life, and stuff" would actually mean "and birds"? We'll celebrate our milestone with some funny memories too (thank you Bang Babe Caitlin), and we're banging on about a coupla great books. Chopsticks or Fork by Jennifer Wong and Lin Jie Kong, and Miranda July's new novel All Fours. Thank you to every one of you who listened to this or any of the 299 other episodes we've shared. We wouldn't be here without your support, and your emails, DM's, and crop dusting of "bang fam" fills our hearts and our cups. We're very lucky to have been able to make it to #300 with such a beautiful community. #299: Myf and Zan Bang On About Music Docos

We’re living in the era of the music documentary. From the big screen to streaming to social media, films about our favourite artists are everywhere. But where to start? Well, Myf and Zan have done God’s work and watched a bunch of them. Inspired by the great lineup of music docos on the Melbourne International Film Festival program, this week Myf and Zan are talking about some of their faves. There’s new films about electro punk pioneer Peaches and cult Irish hip-hop act Kneecap; films that chart the rise and fall of icons like ABBA and Whitney Houston; and there’s those goosebump-inducing moments on film that capture transcendent performers at their peak. #297: Opening Ceremony, Wax Figures, Hoof Boots

It's been a very EXTRA week, and so we're going early cos frankly we're busting to unpack it all.  The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony is camp AF and we're here for Blue Man Group Dionysis, Renaissance horsewoman, a ménage a trois nod, and death metal beheadings of Marie Antoinette. Obvs we're on the floor watching Celine's return. Wow. CD's are having a renaissance of their own, thanks mainly to T Swift, but a sweet editorial has us reminiscing about the beloved compact disc and the memories they hold. And on the anniversary of Sinead O'Connor's death, a wax figure has been unveiled in Dublin. It's not good. Bang Fam have been DM'ing us the Alexander McQueen hoof boots left right and centre too, and trotting down the runway with this hairy FARSHUN. And we're banging on about the Von Dutch doco and Nick Cave & Sean O'Hagan's beautiful book of conversations.   Show notes:  Kasey Chambers book: https://www.hardiegrant.com.au/au/publishing/bookfinder/book/kasey-chambers-just-don_t-be-a-d__khead-by-kasey-chambers/9781761451027 Opening Ceremony highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pe5xlUgyzk  CD sales are growing: https://www.theguardian.com/music/article/2024/jul/28/cd-sales-rise-taylor-swift-collection-nostalgia-90s-oasis-bashy-metronomy-kitty-liv Sinead O'Connor wax figure: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-27/sinead-oconnor-wax-figure-taken-down-over-poor-likeness/104150802 Wax celebrity figures: https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/celebs/g19664055/bad-celebrity-wax-figures/?slide=4 McQueen hoof boot: https://www.alexandermcqueen.com/en-us/pr/hoof-boot-808119WLAAB1779.html Vote for Take 5 in the Logies: https://www.tvweeklogies.com.au/ The Curse of Von Dutch: https://www.primevideo.com/detail/0QYBYKB3RIIMODVVT5YT82791P/ref=atv_dl_rdr?tag=justau2tuk-22 Faith, Hope & Carnage: https://www.nickcave.com/faith-hope-and-carnage/ Bang Back to us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au  Bang On Live: https://comedy.com.au/tour/bang-on-live-myf-warhurst-zan-rowe/ Bang On Merch Store: https://sound-merch.com.au/collections/bang-on-live Produced by: Caitlin Nienaber & Nick Gerber Bang On is an ABC podcast, produced by Double J. #296: Paris Olympics, Kamala is brat, Twisters

Bonjour! It's a tres bien Bang On this week and we're all in on everything Olympics: Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, nuggie ban, and the farshun. Oh and the sport, that too. Emily is in Paris again for S04, but she's also in Rome. We have the latest updates on Myf's fave soap opera and speaking of sports, Katy Perry has been announced as pre-game entertainment for the AFL Grand Final. Fingers crossed Left Shark makes the trip down, too. Kamala is brat and we go in on the most joyful part of the US election race thus far. And Chappell Roan is stepping back following some parasocial relationship boundary crossing. How to be a pop star today? With great difficulty. We're also banging on about reality series Trixie Motel and blockbuster remake Twisters. Think of us as a familiar silly salve, in this wild world.   Show notes: Katy Perry at AFL GF: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-25/afl-grand-final-entertainment-katy-perry-announced/104139812 Celine and Lady Gaga in Paris: https://deadline.com/2024/07/celine-dion-paris-speculation-perform-olympics-opening-ceremony-1236018839/ Tillies: https://www.pedestrian.tv/sport/matildas-australia-paris-olympics-uniform/ No nuggies in Paris: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/jul/22/chicken-nuggets-paris-2024-olympic-games-food-health Emily in Paris S04: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLPk8yRq9_c Kamala is brat: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/article/2024/jul/22/kamala-harris-coconut-tree-meme Chappell Roan steps back?: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-22/icymi-chappell-roan-the-boys-finale-fangirls-eminem-taylor-swift/104125894#roan Trixie Motel: https://trixiemotel.com/ Twisters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm27YjLnPHc Bang Back to us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.au Bang On Live: https://comedy.com.au/tour/bang-on-live-myf-warhurst-zan-rowe/ Bang On Merch Store: https://sound-merch.com.au/collections/bang-on-live Produced by: Caitlin Nienaber & Ryan Young   Bang On is an ABC podcast, produced by Double J. #295: Tenacious D, Shannen Doherty, Katy Perry

Myf and Zan are back and we've got heaps to unpack. Tenacious D's tour cancellation, Katy Perry's confusing comeback single, and some hot rumours about sequels and surprise appearances. We're going deep on BRATS too, the new doco on The Brat Pack, and we have thoughts. And speaking of coming of age memories, the sad death of Shannen Doherty has us reflecting on her roles in our lives. Zan has a big debrief of London fun too, including a robot ABBA review, and Balenciaga are trolling us again with their latest collection. Need something to binge? Myf is banging on about new Aussie series Fake, and Zan is raving about the Nathan Fielder, Benny Safdie, and Emma Stone series The Curse.
