In our culture, yawning in public is considered rude. But yawning ensures that our brain is supplied with sufficient oxygen and it serves as a temperature regulator: only 0.1° too high temperature is already harmful! In relation to pain, yawning has a key role: yawning attentively, that is, with all the senses, lowers the perception of pain. So far, researchers in this field only know THAT this IS so, but not why it is so. But we should not care about that. The important thing is that you can reduce your perception of pain by yawning.
