In tonight's edition: Vote counting is underway in South Africa as millions of people turn out to this landmark election three decades after the end of apartheid in a poll that could see the ruling ANC party fighting to protect its grip on power. 

One day ahead of general elections in South Africa, we look ahead to what's at stake for the ruling African National Congress, which is in danger of losing its majority for the first time since the birth of democracy there. In a country where the youth make up the majority of the population, a bleak outlook is keeping many of them away from the polls. Also, we meet the former Senegalese rifleman who will carry the Olympic torch at the Paris Games. 

In tonight's edition: A resident from the besieged Sudanese city of El-Fasher speaks of the fear and frustration that civilians experience while trying to survive amid a civil war. Cameroon's Rose Leke is a pioneering professor who is in town to be honoured for her work against malaria at the L'Oreal Women in Science awards here in Paris.  And Benin is planning to allow granting citizenship to Afrodescendents.  

In DR Congo, a speaker of the National Assembly has finally been elected after months of political infighting. The winner, Vital Kamerhe, was subject to an assassination attempt in an attempted coup over the weekend. We take a closer look.
