    John & Paul: A Love Story In Songs

    The panel reviews and discusses last year's hit Beatle book John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs, by Ian Leslie. We loved this book. For those who haven't read it, it's a "biography of a relationship" - telling the story of John and Paul's partnership through their songs. Each chapter is named after a song which means even the table of contents tells a story.  For the casual fan, this book is a pretty thorough summary of all the major events of their lives. For the Beatles experts, Ian underlines facts you might not have noticed (John and Paul both use "I" even when they trade lead vocal on "A Hard Day's Night", the album Rubber Soul took just 14 days of studio time to record?) as well as thoughtful connections you might not have considered (You can see "Tommorrow Never Knows" as an answer to "Yesterday").  His description of the songs themselves captures what it feels like to listen to them. He rightfully points out that any Beatles fan has listened to "Hey Jude" so many times it's ironically tough to ACTUALLY hear. They he describes the gradual build of the song that it pops into your head, fresh for the first time in years! It's a best seller so many of you will have read it.     EMERGENCY EPISODE: Paul Rocks The Fonda

    This weekend (March 27 and 28, 2026), Sir Paul McCartney and his band did an "intimate" concert for just 1000 people in Los Angeles, at the Fonda Theater. 3/4 of the panel was there, so we did this episode to discuss it! Will, Joel and Brett share their memories, while Katie is here to help us describe things and do her best to contain her seething jealousy!  Joining us is special guest Scott Aukerman! You know Scott from Comedy Bang-Bang and a million other cool comedy projects. But he's also an avid music fan and LA concert-goer. He's also the reason Brett was able to see the show!  We dive DEEP on the details of entering the lottery, buying the tickets, the sound check, the show itself, the other guests in attendence, what happened on Saturday night which we did not see, and much more.  For a diehard Beatles fan, seeing Paul in concert is an insanely happy experience.     Today (March 26, 2026), Paul McCartney announced that he finished a new album that will come out in May, called The Boys of Dungeon Lane. He also released the first single, which is called "Days We Left Behind." We listen to it and talk about! And we also talk about what it felt like to hear Paul was releasing another album.     Man On The Run

    We cover the new Paul McCartney documentary MAN ON THE RUN, out on Amazon Prime, which covers the Wings part of Paul's post Beatles era.  Among other things, we hear Paul's motivations behind founding Wings, the emotional struggles after the end of the Beatles, thoughts about John's angry statements about Paul, his marriage to and relationship with Linda, musical decisions of many of his best known songs, his reaction to John's death and more. Overall it's a compassionate look that's surprisingly honest, given that Paul is an executive producer. The panel largely wanted more depth, but also enjoy what's here. In our "I Read The News Today Oh Boy" segment, we discuss Peter Jackson's statement that there is footage of the White Album being recorded, and Paul's upcoming "intimate" concerts in Los Angeles.     The panel goes over the newest episode of the Beatles Anthology - Episode 9! Released last November (2025), this episode shows interviews of Paul George and Ringo at the time they were filming the Anthology in the mid-90s. We see their thoughts and feelings about looking back on the Beatles. We also get extended looks at the recording the John Lennon Demos "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love." We get a surprisingly happy George, Ringo warmly telling Paul to quit horsing around and a generally sunny time. We also quickly discuss the upcoming Sam Mendes Beatles biopics, Ethan Hawke's Beatles take and a Mark Lewisohn ... er, power point presentation?     One to One: John & Yoko (Lennon Concert Documentary)

    The panel goes over the recent documentary ONE TO ONE: JOHN & YOKO. This is a look at John's only real solo concert, which he did at Madison Square Garden in 1972 to benefit a children's hospital. The doc also takes a lot of the news issues of the day which were influencing John and his struggles with immigration at the time.  We're amazed at realizing how intense the nightly news was at this time, and it gave us new perspective on John's more politically minded songs and activism.     The panel goes very deep on Anthology 4, the "new" volume of rare tracks released as a sequel to the 1994 documentary / music release Beatles Anthology. I put "new" in quotes since many of these tracks were included on the re-mixes of Revolver, White Album, Let It Be and Abbey Road. It's a fun listen. We spend a lot of time going track by track to give our thoughts on it.
