gratify the desires of the flesh.  For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

There is a verse in the Bible that many people use as an excuse or cliché, in order to minimize sin and unrighteousness. Many people will quote this verse in
defense of ungodly actions. The verse is so overused for this excuse that the meaning has been distorted.
