How We've Used Half Time Reports-- Deep Dive with Jared S. Bryson
This is the last episode of the first season of the Normalize Excellence podcast and I conclude by bringing one of my best friends and my weekly accountability partner, Jared S. Bryson, onto the show to rap about one of our highest leverage tactics in our goal system.
Join Jared and I as we discuss how we've used half time reports in our weekly accountability meetings. This is a companion episode to episode #8 of the podcast-- "Half Time Report: You Should Use Wednesday Like The Best Coaches Use Half Time"-- and is best used if you listen to both episodes as if they are one and the same.
You can find Jared at JaredSBryson.com (Ig, twitter, coding, website design, photography, etc). -
Review the tape
In this episode, host Keith Matier tells a story about Kobe Bryant and his 2010 championship run to illustrate the point that we should be "reviewing the tape" or analyzing the things that are going well and the things that aren't going well in our lives on a daily and weekly basis.
To "review the tape," Keith suggests that you 1) track your habits, 2) review your habits at the beginning or end of the week with a friend or WAM partner, and 3) brainstorm adjustments and act on them

Finish Strong-- How to be Clutch; Focus Over Fear
In this episode, host Keith Matier flashes back to an anti-clutch moment in the 2006 playoffs by NBA star Gilbert Arenas to reveal how we, like Gilbert, often have mental blunders that lead to anti-clutch moments that derail our success.
To avoid the same pitfalls Gilbert experienced, Keith brings in research from Dr. Srini Pillay to show you how to train your brain to focus on your goals amidst adversity instead of the possibility of failure. -
Finish Strong-- Never Give Up
In this episode, host Keith Matier explains how Buddy Hield exposes the Minnesota Timberwolves as a team that gives up in the fourth quarter and then encourages you to avoid falling apart at the end of games like the Timberwolves. He also shows how to finish strong like Buddy Hield did in the heroic tribute game to the late legend Kobe Bryant. Finishing strong requires you to:
Identify your intentionality statements
Control your net rating at the end of tracking periods
Uncover patterns to identify potential areas that lead to performance tapering -
Half Time Report: You Should Use Wednesday Like The Best Coaches Use Half Time
Host Keith Matier reveals how the best coaches use halftime reports to make in game adjustments to win games, and encourages you to take 15-30 minutes on Wednesday evening to make your own in-week adjustments to bounce back from a slow start to the week or double down on what has gone well.
