    America's David vs Goliath

    America's David vs Goliath

This episode features cinematic sound. Ben Lay was under 4 feet tall with a hunched back. He was an outcast from the quaker community. A hardened and experienced sailor, sailing the toughest waters, in the most challenging era of modern history. He was also the most moral and visionary leader in colonial, pre-revolutionary America. He relentlessly lashed the church and colonial leaders for committing the greatest sins "the devil ever brought into the church in America." Ben Lay became a major influence on Deborah Reed and Benjamin Franklin, setting a course for the religious movement to support the abolution of slavery. Yet Ben Lay was banished from the history books. This is a time when America needs new role models, particularly those still unaware that the original white-American identity was born in the law books of 17th century British colonies, for the purpose of establishing a caste system built on racial slavery. For all our sakes, herein lies a true American hero.

Very Difficult Review | Very Difficult Series

There is so much nuance to history, so many cultural implications that carry it along – and now we have to worry about cultural implications stopping history from being true or known at all. So, for me it is personal, and it seems that way for the author, Matthew Cooke.

Tying in nuance is a science thing as much as a philosophy thing, and it is a completeness thing. After listening I have the feeling of usability, that I have enmeshed the information into that which I knew and now I can use it in a new way.

…and yet, there is still so much to know. So future doses of American Origin Stories along with doses of UnF•cking the Republic, I feel that I can capture the hidden details and implications of the current news. So thanks.
