The Documentary, released July 21 on all digital formats, gives an intimate look at midwives and their patients working in the hospital system.

Andrew Niccol, Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, producer, joins Reel Talk this month. Andrew Niccol wrote, produced and directed award-winning and nominated films The Truman Show, Gattaca, In Time, Lord of War and he most recently directed and wrote Good Kill, which opens in theatres nationwide on May 15.

Reel Talk with Film DC is joined by Hawah, the co-founder and executive director of One Common Unity and producer of the new feature-length documentary "Fly By Light." The film, which will premiere May 1 at National Geographic's Grosvenor Theater in DC, chronicles the stories of a group of DC teenagers seeking to change their lives through their participation in the "Fly By Light" program, a peace education and conflict resolution initiative for local at risk youth.

Secretary Vaughan and Councilmember Orange discuss the history and significance of Emancipation Day and the host of festivities planned to celebrate this important day for the District.

Angie M. Gates was recently appointed as the new director of the Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD). Angie Gates comes to MPTD from a diverse career in live entertainment and film, having served most recently as the general manager of the historic Warner Theatre. Angie speaks on her background, vision for the agency, and what she finds most promising about the film and television landscape in the District.

This month Reel Talk with Film DC is joined by the creator of the Spotlight on Screenwriters, a groundbreaking new initiative from Women in Film and Video (WIFV) that compiles the work of talented screenwriters in the DC metropolitan region into a professionally produced Spec-catalog to be presented to major producers. Monica Lee Bellais, WIFV Board Member and creator of Spotlight on Screenwriters, gives Reel Talk with Film DC listeners a first-hand take on how Spotlight on Screenwriters was conceived and how it's already helping talented screenwriters in the region. She is joined by featured screenwriters in the catalog.
