This week Pip is joined by the fantastic in every way comedian, writer and actor MAE MARTIN!
A tremendous meetup of Pip and Mae, and dare I say a long overdue one at that… You’ll get to hear all about Mae in the greater scale and sense, from back in the day to… now… in the day…? Yeah that sounds fine to me… But yeah, everything from then to now, including what she is doing THIS VERY MOMENT, and by that of course I mean starring in the simultaneously hilariously funny and brutally honest Feel Good (well, coming in March), which looks set to blow up worldwide. So expect to hear it all from how to view the series (best served binged), the weirdness of editing trailers, getting the correct audience, Canada (Oh Canada), the process of getting a set together, Mae the character and Mae the person, sex scenes and writing a proudly LGBT show, humanising addition, the casting process, digging deep into personal history and the transition from Canada to London but SO MUCH MORE of course. Jeff's work speaks for itself, as a cursory glance at his IMDB page will surely reveal. In speaking for itself, this means basically that you see a list of films he's worked on that is essentially wall-to-wall bangers to put it bluntly. You'll also see connective tissue by way of powerfully great actor Michael Shannon, who is a through-line in Jeff's cinematic output. This chat is a really nice and easy back and forth with Pip and Jeff, getting into aspects of casting, storytelling, detail, adaptation and the enigmatic inside to outside world of actors. OH and also a bonus two part question from a very highly rated actor who you'll be very excited to hear from, trust us. No spoilers. Enjoy this one, it's a sureshot for anyone of a cinematic leaning, and those who appreciate the mysterious art of film making.

This week Pip is joined by musician, comic, actor, writer and so much more, Jordan Gray aka Tall Dark Friend!
This writeup is not from the original episode, but just a quick shout about Jordan. This was their first appearance on Distraction Pieces, the first of many it would turn out, and is one of the episodes you might have heard Pip cite many a time on subsequent episodes. One thing to bear in mind is that this is from almost 10 years ago at this point, and at this point in history we are now at episode 570+. So as you can well imagine, a LOT has been discussed since, much has been learned, many perspectives have been sharpened and multiplied, and we've seen a huge amount happening in the intervening years. Keep this in mind while listening, but also as Jordan has had some incredible leaps and bounds career-wise. A fascinating glimpse back in time, and definitely look back at the then future episodes with show pal Jordan!

This week Pip is joined by activist, author and actor (all the A’s), Michael Cashman! Sorry - let me correct that - Baron Cashman CBE!
An amazing meeting this week with Pip and Michael, a man whose experience and knowledge will come shining through immediately upon listening. As a founder of Stonewall (with Ian McKellen), ex-member of European Parliament, activist and former actor (those of us who grew up on Eastenders will remember him as Colin), his life has been a genuine document of ups and downs, highs and lows, but all navigated with love, conviction and positivity. His story is moving, uplifting and at times incredibly unfair, but as you will hear - from all of this, pure goodness has been his reward. Over 30 years of his journey has been underpinned by long term partner Paul, who is unfortunately no longer with us but as you’ll hear, is spoken of by Michael with such love and compassion and it’s pretty much impossible to not be stirred by - well, the whole conversation, let’s be frank. The rest is yours to discover - listen, learn, and become better acquainted with a strong force for good in the world. Welcome, Michael!
