Welcome to Genfluence, the home of intergenerational influence. We explore the notion of influence through the lens of another Zillennial who is in that weird space where you feel too old to be a Gen-Z & still too young to be a millennial.

This podcast will get inside the minds of the next generation's visionaries, leaders and creatives. Through hearing about people's journeys and exploring different perspectives, we're just getting to understand how different generations are influencing culture, navigating life, figuring it out and doing it their own way.

Dreaming of Home Ownership & The Future of Property

Dreaming of Home Ownership & The Future of Property

    Happy Genfluence Monday,

To bring the month to a close, we have an exciting episode that will have you dreaming about the future of property.

In this episode I chat to Sibiya, an aspiring role player of the built environment who is currently doing his honours at the University of Cape Town in Quantity Surveying. Sibiya has a keen eye for planning, directing and coordinating bodies of work. He is immensely passionate about property development, real estate and architecture. This passion led him to completing a number of internships during his undergraduate.

As an extension of his passion, he recently started a Youtube Channel, called Let's Prop'In which has over 1000 subcribers. The channel is centred around exploring and showcasing some of the most beautiful residential properties in South Africa.

Building Brands, Businesses & Slow Fashion Habits.

    Happy Genfluence Monday !

Today’s podcast is the boost you need to get your week started. In the first ever Genfluence guest episode, I chat to brand builder and entrepreneur Kishana Naidoo.

Kishana is the former brand manager of one of South Africa’s favourite cult beauty brands SwiitchBeauty, as well as the former African business development representative for Meltwater, a global leader in AI & Media Intelligence. Today she is the brand communications executive at the advertising agency, MetropolitanRepublic. But by far the most important is that she is the co-founder of a peer to peer clothing rental platform named Shared Collective, who are doing their part to ensure that your clothing is working for you and not the other way around! Shared Collective is all about sharing what we have in order to create a space for conversation, connection and collaborative consumption.

In this episode we touch on figuring out career choices, building brands, starting a business as well as the importance of conscious consumption & slow fashion.

Breaking Down TikTok's Stolen Trends, Algorithm Bias & the Dangers of Social Media Censorship

Breaking Down TikTok's Stolen Trends, Algorithm Bias & the Dangers of Social Media Censorship

    Happy Monday Genfluence community,

In today's episode, we will be discussing what I once called my favorite app that soared in popularity during the pandemic. Behind the hashtags, dance trends & viral challenges, there is a hidden influence that shapes every user's experience of the app. I'll be reflecting on how the impact of exclusionary algorithms and AI bias on social media; suppresses content creators from marginalized groups. I'll also be looking at the dangers of content moderation policies in general that are indirectly fueled by AI bias. What was once known as the happy, laid back and safe space for expression has now been coined by some as "the gentrified vine" and many content creators have had their online experience negatively impacted as a result of algorithmic bias.
