Leurs histoires sont enregistrées à thecamp, un camp de base pour explorer le futur. // The Explorers are people who've decided to create the future they want to live in. “My friend is a nurse, and one day I was typing that into my phone. I typed, “my friend is a nurse and” – and the phone showed me three possible next words. Two of those words were “she”, and “she’s”. This made me wonder, because I didn’t tell the phone that my friend was female. On the one hand, that’s a really good prediction, because 87% of nurses in North America, where I live, are female. On the other hand, it’s a pretty biased prediction because we don’t want the world to have assumptions about what jobs a man or a woman can do. Most of these words are trained off newspaper stories and publications from the last 50 years. And if we want the future to look like the world 50 years ago, that’s probably a good way to do things. But the world 50 years ago wasn’t a very good place.” -
Romain Cristofini – “Et si les dirigeants s’autorisaient à passer de la tête au cœur ?”
Dans cet épisode des Explorateurs, Romain Cristofini, executive coach, nous raconte l’effet surprenant du désert saharien sur un dirigeant français.
“Cet homme-là a convoqué tous ses managers à une conférence téléphonique. Il a dit, “Écoutez, vous savez que je suis partie une semaine dans le désert, que j’avais besoin de faire le point, et j’avais besoin de savoir aussi où on pouvait aller tous ensemble”. Et il leur dit “je pense que maintenant notre étape après tout ce qu’on a fait, c’est ouvrir le canal cœur”. Et la conférence téléphonique c’est fini comme ça. Donc on peut imaginer la réaction des managers qui entendent ça, et qui se disent, il est peut-être un petit peu éliminé notre dirigeant.”

Alan Fitsimmons – “Asteroids are time capsules from our solar system” [EN]
Alan Fitsimmons is an astronomer working on the Hera project with the European Space Agency, a mission to learn how to deflect an asteroid that's on a collision course with the Earth.
“I'm standing on the lip of this huge hole [Meteor Crater], over a kilometer across, several hundred meters deep, formed when, 49,000 years ago, a small asteroid, only 50 meters across, entered our atmosphere, reached the ground, exploded with the force of many, many nuclear weapons and made this crater. And I thought, wow, this is incredible. I knew asteroids were important, and they are important scientifically. I thought, this is also important. How often does this happen? How many of these things are there out there?”

Ian Carnelli – “L'impact d’un astéroïde est la seule catastrophe naturelle qu’on peut éviter” [FR]
Ian Carnelli dirige une équipe à l'Agence Spatiale Européenne qui travaille sur Hera, une mission qui a pour objectif de déterminer comment faire dévier des astéroïdes qui sinon frapperaient la Terre.
“Les hasards de la vie, c'était le scientifique qui était en charge de la mission qui a exploré Éros, que j'avais vu à 14 ans. Il nous dit, “J'ai une idée : en allant percuter un astéroïde qui, au fait, n'est pas un astéroïde tout seul, mais c'est la lune d'un astéroïde binaire...” On s'est rendu compte qu'en fait, il avait trouvé la solution magique.”
