Visionnaire et pionnière, elle a contribué à bâtir dès la fin des 70’s les fondations de cette industrie qui n’en était pas encore une. Grande voyageuse, vivant entre mer et montagne, elle est à l’origine des premières projections en France de films de glisse sur grand écran.

Quelques années plus tard, au gré de voyages et de rencontres, c’est dans la ferme basque familiale qu’a été créé NaPali, la division européenne de Quiksilver.

Mais l’une des plus grandes réussites de Maritxu est d’avoir permis aux filles d'obtenir la place qui était la leur au line-up - et en dehors - à travers la première marque de surf 100% féminine : Roxy.

Avec simplicité, elle raconte à notre micro cette carrière impressionnante constamment nourrie de voyages et de projets en tout genre, et portée par la même passion qu’à ses débuts. Bref, un épisode riche, lumineux
et incontournable.

You can’t talk about female icons of the surfing industry without mentioning Maritxu Darrigand.

Back in the 70’s, a visionary and a pioneer, she helped lay the foundations of the industry before it was an industry. As a world traveller living between the mountain and the ocean, she was behind the first screenings of surf movies in theatres.

A few years later, inspired by travels and encounters, NaPali, the European division of Quiksilver was born on the Basque family farm.

But one of Maritxu’s greatest achievements was giving women their rightful place in the line-up - and in general - through the very first all women’s surfing brand: Roxy.

Very accessible, she sat down for a chat to talk about her impressive career, which was built on her travels and projects of all shapes and forms but always drive from her passion fromday one. In a nutshell, this episode is both enlightening and inspiring and not to be missed.
