    10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

    10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

We’ve come to watch it wealthfully at Padua High as we dive into a sea of nostalgia with 10 Things I Hate About You! Don’t worry, fam - this one mostly holds up. In fact, Kat reads more shrewd than shrew, women are taking control of their own lives and destinies, the villain gets knocked out by Alex Mack, and there’s a lot of shouting about placenta. What’s not to love? Brush up your Shakespeare, dust off your crimson cape, and join us!

    Oliver & Company (1988)

    Oliver & Company (1988)

We know perfect isn’t easy, but that’s hardly an excuse. This week we watch 1988’s Oliver & Company and grapple with one of the questions the film asks us from nearly the beginning: Why should we care? The music still slaps - despite the unused talents of Sheryl Lee Ralph - but otherwise we’re not entirely sure about the longstanding value of this Dickensian mish mosh. Sure, it’s the only role in which Billy Joel doesn’t play himself... but is that it? Make no bones about it, we were doggone frustrated this week. But hey - why should we ca-a-re?

Robin Hood (1973) w/ Ashley Esqueda

Robin Hood (1973) w/ Ashley Esqueda

This week Josh and Clancy are joined by CNET’s Ashley Esqueda as they attempt to land a bullseye with 1973’s Robin Hood. She’s a lady, and she’s been waiting to join us on Nonplussed! We discuss our respective pubescent feelings about anthropomorphic animals, the tragic fate of the rabbit family’s patriarch, and Josh’s history with hamster dance. Golly, what a day!

DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990)

DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990)

This week we might solve a mystery while critically examining history in DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp. Y’all know what we say about nostalgia, and it holds true in the case of this moderately problematic childhood favorite. More than questionable racial depictions, Doc Brown screaming as a menagerie of mustachioed animals, and count the whackaroonies with us on this week’s Nonplussed!

    Ratatouille (2007)

    Ratatouille (2007)

This week we take a big ol’ bite out of Pixar’s Ratatouille, and try really hard not to spit it back out. We scrabble at answering the big questions: How much electricity a rat can take? How effective is Linguini’s gaslighting? Why is Colette the only woman with speaking lines? Clancy cooks up a ratspiracy that Josh just can’t swallow while enjoying the sights (!), smells (?), and tastes (!?) of France. Set aside your egos and join us as we examine the life of the littlest chef in Paris.

    Hamilton (2020) w/ Gillian Pensavalle

    Hamilton (2020) w/ Gillian Pensavalle

This week, we break down the latest and greatest addition to Disney+: Hamilton. We gush about the turntable, the costumes, the voices. We dissect to the best of our ability the few musical themes we could spot. We talk (briefly and naively) about the show being an entryway into more in-depth learning and critical thinking of the founding fathers. And even after all that - we bring on the one and only Gillian Pensavalle host of The Hamilcast (also of The Residuals, True Crime Obsessed, and Ted and Michael Read Sketches Into Microphones) about having the show whenever we want it for the low, low price of $6.99 a month.
