Burke and Hare, Edinburgh’s most ghoulish residents!
In contrast to the increase in numbers of executions in the wake of the Bloody Code, the Judgement of Death Act 1823 saw the number of crimes punishable by death in Britain drop dramatically. Good news in theory, but since medical and anatomical schools were only legally allowed to dissect the bodies, or cadavers, of those who had been condemned to death, this led to an extreme shortage of dead bodies available.
However, the financial compensation offered by medical schools meant that some unscrupulous types soon found a way around this shortage of bodies, leading to a rash of grave-robbing by those known as resurrectionists.
Instances of grave-robbing became so commonplace that relatives were known to watch over the recently dug graves of their dearly departed and watch towers were installed in cemeteries across the land. The ‘fresher’ the body, the more money it was worth, thus it didn’t take long before grave-robbing graduated to anatomy murder – murder committed with the sole intention of providing the remains for medical research and attracting a monetary reward. The most infamous of which were the Burke and Hare Murders in Edinburgh, which occurred between 1827 – 1828.

The Dark Web | Human Experimentation, Red Rooms, Drugs and Weapons!
BILLY IS BACK! Are you ready for this one? If you're not in the know, you might be asking, "What is the deep web?" Also known as the "darknet" (this latter term is, in fact, more accurate) and primarily accessed through the Tor network, the deep web basically allows access to the 21st-century underground market. It's also an anonymous "playground" for content that's unsuitable for the "clearnet" (the everyday Internet). It is largely untraceable (though not completely) and is perhaps most widely used for the sale of unmentionable goods and services.
Beyond drugs, some use the deep web to buy and sell weapons. But perhaps most alarming of all, some use it to exchange or discuss photos and videos of children cryptically referred to as "cheese pizza." (The "C" and "P" heading each word explains this code word.)
While these aspects of the deep web are unsettling in and of themselves, the deep web's reputation as a playground for hedonism, depravity, and nefarious or sinister acts is a bit unfounded. Aside from questionable content and sales, much of the content accessed via Tor is fairly innocuous.

CROPSEY | A True Urban Legend!
One of the scariest documentaries in recent memory tells the legend of Cropsey through the eyes of the people who lived through the nightmare of an urban legend come to life. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, mentally handicapped children systematically started going missing on Staten Island and no one knew what was happening to them. At least, not until the police were able to track down a man named Andre Rand, a vagrant and former custodian at the Willowbrook State School, who they believed was responsible for the disappearances.
