#23: Freedom is a Constant Quest

One story that must be told is my own. I've been on a radical journey of defining + finding freedom over the last few years. One thing that I've come to realize is that freedom is a constant quest. As I evolve and swell in self-love + agency, so do my desires.

In this episode, I share some of the complexities of my own journey. I hope that you enjoy!

    #22: The Munich Cowboys Cheerleaders

    #22: The Munich Cowboys Cheerleaders

On this episode, I had the great privilege of interviewing published author, Kathy Murray. Like myself, Kathy is a Black woman who left the corporate world and embarked on an expat lifestyle solo. She chronicles her experiences in her novel, The Munich Cowboys Cheerleaders.

I really enjoyed unpacking the life of a trailblazer with extremely rich experiences, while also acknowledging that there are still so many adventures that she looks forward to. #FreeBlackGirlEnergy

Kathy Murray is a certified personal trainer with over thirty years’ experience in the fitness industry. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University where she was a member of the 1983 National Cheerleading Championship Team.

After college she competed in and won the United States Aerobic Championship in 1986 and spent the year traveling the world as a Fitness Ambassador and worked as a free-lance educator to teach fitness to European Instructors.

While in Munich, she coached the Munich Cowboys (American Football) Cheerleaders to six national titles in cheerleading and was head trainer/translator for the German Gladiators during a pilot TV show for the International Gladiators.

Always an avid cyclist, Kathy dipped her toe into the world of multi-sport in 2000, first competing in duathlons then eventually moving to triathlons. Kathy has owned her personal training business Fit Bodies for 25 years and in 2022 co-authored the Audible book, The Munich Cowboy Cheerleaders based on her time coaching the squad.

She lives in Atlanta with her husband Lutalo, dog Mingus and cat Sassy. Website | Instagram | LinkedIn | Facebook | YouTube | Twitter

    #21: The 10-Year Plan

Remember when we had the long list of all the things we HAD to do by the time we were 30 or the we'd be completely dissatisfied? Yeah - we cringed at the thought of "The 10-Year Plan" too! Tap in with my girl Nina and I as we reflect on all of the things that we've happily let go of as we've come into our own.

This episode was girl talk that was right on time! Especially after I recently cut off an expected 4-week trip short to protect my peace. Whew, chile!

    Show Guest:

Nina is a Certified Life Coach who helps black mamas overcome the pressure of perfectionism by prioritizing selfcare and community.

    #20: Boy Mamas

    #20: Boy Mamas

I'm starting to think seriously about being a mother and this episode hit me so deeply. So deeply, I held it close to my chest for a month - walking with it + meditating on the nuggets that were shared. The experience of motherhood is so nuanced. I appreciated the beautifully raw stories shared by Liku and Jasmine. I'm forever grateful that these sisters WENT there with me.

As a bit of background, Liku was the woman who helped the notion of sisterhood at scale for me. Jasmine was the woman who first gave me the opportunity to help heal young teenage girls who had become jaded to the thought of sisterhood, as I once had.

It's beautiful to be reminded of how much I love what I do. My work is an extension of the air that I breathe. With this episode, I am reminded that I am leaving a mark for all who come behind. In America, it may be difficult for us to know where we came from... but my children will know that they they came from me. And knowing that... will be such a force.

    Show Guests:

Liku T. Amadi, Esq. (Website | Instagram | LinkedIn) is a Bay Area native and CA licensed business attorney. Liku helps coaches and consultants establish a solid legal foundation through custom contracts. Liku makes it a point to educate her clients on the what and why behind legal services to empower them to make legally informed business decisions and control the dynamics of their business relationships. Liku is a proud boy mom and champion of Black women.

Jasmine Fountain (Website | Instagram | YouTube) graduated from Michigan State University after studying sociology, community relations, and African American and African studies. Since then, she has been an educator in the public school systems in both Atlanta, Georgia, and Oakland, California. Since teaching , God has led Jasmine into spiritual education. She has become dedicated to helping young women also find freedom in God’s love and their story. Currently, she is devoting herself to founding God’s Butterfly Effect in order to reach as many young women as possible with a message of God’s transforming love. Jasmine partners with women of faith from all over the country to provide mentorship, classes, and service experiences to young women ages 9-21. Jasmine loves the rush of stepping out on faith and hopes to share the rush with her precious son David.
